An excellent fictionalized version of the Kennedy assassination, alternating between the life of Oswald, and a CIA conspiracy to drum up support for Cuba that quickly spirals out of control. Confusing at times, but then shouldn't conspiracies be a little confusing? A much better entry point to DeLillo than the other books of his that I've read (Underworld is massive, White Noise is annoying).

Absolutely one of my favorite poets of all time. Later poems get bogged down in ideology but early poems are pure energy and insanity. Reminds me a lot of Brook, too, read this book and see if you have a similar reaction.

a lovely, light hiatus from the emotional gravitas the wimsey-vane pairing brought to the series. this book reminds us, as if we needed reminding, exactly how clever harriet vane is and why exactly she's peter's equal. and while the pause in their romantic adventures was imperative for their character development ("we were on a break!"), the book suffered slightly for the lack of energy their pairing always brings. in sum, this book is much like any of the pre-harriet wimsey titles -- gorgeous, clever, light, and eclipsed by the superior wimsey-vane installations.

I found myself wishing I could give this book more than five stars. It's been on my shelf for years, but I finally picked it up to read last summer. A biography of the first Secretary of the Treasury, the man credited with shaping this country’s financial system – yawn. I expected something dry, something that would be a struggle to get through. Instead, I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed it. I was hooked from the first sentence: “In the early 1850s, few pedestrians strolling past the house on H Street in Washington, near the White House, realized that the ancient widow seated by the window, knitting and arranging flowers, was the last surviving link to the glory days of the early republic.” No matter what one’s politics, there’s no denying Hamilton was a genius. True, one can argue the book is slanted pro-Hamilton, however Chernow seems to have plenty of facts to back up his deductions. If you’re at all interested in America’s early politics, read it; you won’t be disappointed.

While I'm a big fan of Yunus & the concept of microfinance, I found this book to be somewhat redundant in later chapters. Could have read the executive summary instead and still gotten all the key points.
