What a classic. Detailing so many insights into software development. For example: man/women and months are not interchangeable in project planning - twice the number of people won't mean the work gets completed in half the time - due to the additional overheads of communication and organisation, and that less tasks in software development are truly parallel. 25 years on, one of the most depressing things is why these same lessons have to be learned again and again, in companies across the globe.

This may be my favorite book of all time. I first read this as a pretty young kid, but I think that everyone will love it. I reread this one at least once a year (which isn't hard since it's all of 60 pages long), but it still never loses its magic.

This is actually a review of Berg's books in general. I'd read a couple some years ago but recently I picked this one up at the library. I then looked for more and have read four to six others. I find her books to be like Godiva chocolates: high quality, addictive, tasty, but I'm not sure how good they are for me. There's something so COZY about them, so much action in kitchens with so much dessert being consumed. Her women complain they've lost their youthful figures and then chomp another brownie! She's a good writer, full of delicate and precise descriptive passages. Her characters seem to remember scenes from childhoods, happy OR unhappy, in the most poetic terms. Dried dandelions have made several appearances. Her characters are largely female, to an extent that I wonder why Jennifer Weiner, for example, has gotten the chick lit label and Berg has not. Having read a bunch of novels, I now tend to assume that when a 'sensitive male' comes along, the heroine is going to end up with him. Things are just a LITTLE TOO PAT. Yet I can't deny the appeal--I just keep reading 'em!

I dislike macho posturing of any kind, particularly that of the culinarily employed, so this book was like a gigantic, persistent irritant, the grain of sand to the oyster gonads of my literary sensibilites (must I now produce a pearl of a review in reaction?). It's mildly entertaining in brief snippets, but ultimately just so much hot air. Another reviewer's mentioned Bourdain's enormous ego, but often those who CAN'T, talk about it most. What's he compensating for???

Stefan Swanepoel, wrote a great book. Is it about Animals? Is it about People? The comparisons are amazing. A must read for all.It is a beautiful three day journey in Africa. It took me one siting to read it. So you can not give the excuse "no time". Once you start you will not be able to put it down. Take the quizz and let me know what animal are you?

I enjoyed this book. I don't think there should be any controversy surrounding its "truthfulness." It is how he portrays what happened to him. I believe people should be able to have a bit of leeway with their memoirs. It is not an autobiography. It was a good, quick read all and all.
