It’s been impossible to ignore the Stieg Larsson trilogy, so I downloaded the first book on the Kindle and got reading. It’s an odd one. The story is good, intriguing, although it was never un-put-downable. I found a spoof of the writing by Nora Ephron and it’s spot on, particularly about the many similar Swedish names. That doesn’t make it bad, though. I did enjoy the mystery aspect, and the several sub-stories were good. I didn’t really like how they solved the Harriet thing only to have a good couple of chapters left. It felt like a bit of a letdown after such good puzzle work. The only other thing was the characters. Fascinating and intriguing, but ultimately not very likeable. Weird. I do still want to read the second book though.

I am going to write a placeholder review for all of Robert Sampson's books because I plan to reread them soon. Hands down, the best writer/historian the pulps ever had! Why? Because he loves the pulps but he's not "in love" with them - he can show you why they were great, why they were awful, why they were brilliant, why they were cheap, how they were poetic and how they were trash, and do it all while informing you AND placing the whole shebang in it's cultural context AND entertaining you. An amazing writer, I believe I need one more book by him to have everything he ever wrote on the subject (that's been printed in book form, at least) - you may not ever need to actually read many pulp stories and now you don't have to - Robert Sampson has and can condense their weird wonder down into this strange, printed form of a magic elixir (a mixed metaphor!?! why, that would have made me 2/3rds of a cent if I was a bang-em out, hack pulp writer!) Seriously, these are some stunning books and well worth your time if you have any interest in the topic of the pulps and dime novels and genre history.

Comment: Excellent. By far the wisest anti-Nietzschean. While you're at it also read 'The Question of Being: A Reversal of Heidegger' which also contains a great deal of material on Nietzsche. Rosen knows many things about Nietzsche, to the point that the best Marxist commentator on Nietzsche, Geoff Waite, has cribbed some of his best anti-Nietzschean moves from Rosen.

This book was good, but I think she talked more about how imortant her faith is to her.the middle had no action so I had trouble getting to the end.but the begining is exiting, and it makes up for the lack of action in the middle.when I was finished, it was pretty good.
