As with many poetry collections, most of it didn't do much for me, but there were 4 or 5 poems that were absolutely incredible. Thus, 4 stars. Still, I much prefer Kleinzahler as a (highly poetic) prose writer than as a poet, I think.

I wasn't so sure about this one but I actually found it quite interesting. I fond myself wishing my calculus teacher blain stavin had given us this to read before he shoved that whole thing about derivitives and integrals down our throats. I may have actually understood what I was doing!

I generally dislike most of the education texts I've been forced to read over the last five years as they seldom have anything to do with actually teaching in a real classroom. This book had some good strategies in it, and that's all I ask out of an ed-book - don't be a complete waste of time.

This book had been slammed (by my collegues) so much for winning the Man Booker Prize that I felt I had to read it to see if it deserved such disdane. And on some levels it did. It often felt pointless, the main character was hard to care about, and it was just too long; but, despite these things I perservered, and eventually found myself wrapped up in the book. There were some truly funny moments, both in events that happened to the main character and in his narration. And external characters, particularly the 'Finkler's' of the title where much easier to care about. All in all I'm glad I read it, though I'm not sure what it really gave me of a long lasting nature. Perhaps I will re-read it at some point and finally grasp the answer.
