No doubt McCarthy's masterpiece (which is saying a lot since practically every book he pens is magnificant in its own right). A word of caution, though his writing his breathtakingly flawless, the tale is devastatingly dark and gritty (I would say reminiscent of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness).

This was a great novel! It's not what I typically read; but, again, I was told I should read this before my trip to Italy. I'm glad that I did. I fell in love with Lucy and her struggle to "do the proper thing" or follow her own desires and form her own thoughts. There was such a variety of characters, and though some were a little more difficult to take than others, they each had a quality to them that was somewhat endearing. I would describe this novel as being about the struggles of growing into adulthood, trying to find out who you really are, learning about life and about love. It's a very charming book.

This was a book I discovered in High School when I was trying to mature my taste in poetry. Anthologies are almost always the best way to grow in taste when it comes to new types of reading. I loved it then and there are still parts of it I still love now, however, not as much as I once did. Narrative Poetry for me has become tired and I yearn for more contemporary and challenging pieces. Still, this is a wonderful collection for anyone who loves easy going and lovely poetry.

An older Shalvis I bought at a used book store. I enjoyed quite a bit of it, including the unusual job of main characters (astronauts), though I did struggle with the heroine at times. Her cold attitude worked in a professional capacity, but I would have liked to see her warm up more on the personal side.

Pure poetical beautiful writing. Reminds me of L.F. Celine, except the overall message is optimistic and attempting to be more profound, rather than cynical for the sake of being cynical and unhappy. This guy can fucking write.

September 2, 2011 review. The Hobbit is an excellent story with a simple but extraordinary exposition. His descriptions, on the other hand, are wonderful and vivid. The sequence of events progresses well and doesn’t dawdle on unimportant parts. The characters also grow over time and struggle in realistic ways, something I rarely see in fantasy settings nowadays. Middle Earth is a remarkable setting full of strange and unusual creatures. It comes as no surprise that Tolkien’s work is literally one of the foundations of High Fantasy literature. Sometimes I feel Tolkien’s storytelling falls flat, particularly in action sequences. He unfortunately summarizes a lot of the battles, putting them into words such as “it was terrible” without really delving into deeper details. This story isn’t too challenging to read, so I can honestly see children enjoying it too. It’s a little slow but intensifies near the end. Bilbo is a fine protagonist that plenty of readers can relate and grow with as the journey progresses. Even if a seasoned adventurer could still enjoy Bilbo’s journey with the dwarves I’d say. Enjoyment: 4/5 Story Itself: 5/5

I love this book!!!! It takes the reader through the expedition of the water cycle by listing on each page a riddle and the painting that provides the clue to the answer which students can guess. For example: “In thousands of shapes I reappear/ high above the earth in the blue sky./ I float./ I drift./ I am the clouds.” I think this is good way to engage students into learning and conversations about the water cycle.
