I LOVED this book. Seriously, I am "book drunk" after reading it. I keep thinking about it and re-reading my favorite portions. I borrowed it from the library, but obviously will have to buy my own copy! It was a pure delight to read! What "Jane(Austen)Junkie" doesn't long to step back into time and find herself in Regency England? The concept of Austenland is just that-for the character, Charlotte, and the reader! I really felt like I was living vicariously through Charlotte! The original novel (Austenland) was a fun read, but I felt like this was even better b/c of the mystery aspect. The whole premise of women going to Pembrook Park and playing make believe gets even more complex when there is a mystery...only is it a make believe mystery or a REAL one? Such fun! I loved the Inner Thoughts of Charlotte and how her real life (shown through flash backs) played out in her stay at Pembrook and how she grew as an individual through her experiences in "Austenland." I liked that she was described as "nice." Not flashy, not eccentric, just nice and how she could still be delightfully interesting to read about. The book was laugh out loud funny-soo many witty lines! It was also very suspenseful and so well done that I was actually jumpy while reading it! I love that a book can have that effect! And the romance was charming-so nicely done! I highly recommend this book and am crossing my fingers that they will make a movie of it too! In a word, it was DELIGHTFUL!

I couldn't put this book down. I like the combination of romance and mystery. I would recommend it.

In Moon Called, Mercedes Thompson, the VW mechanic, Mercy for short, has always strived to lead a normal life. Well, as normal a life as a walker (one who can shape-shift into a coyote) can expect. A walker who was raised by werewolves, whose neighbor is Alpha of the local werewolf pack, whose former boss is a powerful member of the fae community, and whose friend is a vampire with a Scooby Doo Mystery Machine. That kind of normal. When a newly turned teenage werewolf shows up at her garage looking for work, Mercy finds herself crossing the boundary from her version of normal into much more dangerous territory, where she finds herself at the center of a storm of feuding werewolves, vampire favors and angry witches… I was basically instantly sucked into Mercy’s world. She is an engaging heroine, spunky but not cheesy; she feels real. The powerful paranormal characters in her life are realistic even in their otherworldliness, which is impressive. Briggs worked in a good base of folklore and real world nature to make even the unbelievable believable. I never really felt myself rolling my eyes or thinking, god this is cheesy. It wasn’t. I thought the first book showed great world-building potential. The one area where I became a little leery and thought my worries were going to be justified was the end. I hate Scooby Doo-ism, where an author wraps everything up too easily into a neat little package rather than crafting the ending with as much care as the rest of the book. Beginnings and endings, I believe, are the hardest to right and have the most potential for let down, and I was worried I was going to be let down. There was one section where it felt a little too ‘let’s wrap this up,’ but Briggs managed to get away from it and back into a real flow, balancing it out into Mercy’s engaging narration. It was a little blip on my uh-oh radar, but she saved it (though it was a big factor in knocking the book from a 5 to a 4): but she ended with a great closer. Certainly looking forward to the rest of the series, and anything else Briggs writes

The first few pages had me thinking I was going to love this book: the way time alters memory; perception of the past; of the self and others. As I approached the end of the book it was evident that the diary was never going to surface, and it occurred to me that the book was only going to provide 'The Sense of and Ending' and not full closure. However, the final 3 pages left me seething! I understood the ending but I don't think the character of Vernonica's mother was set up from the beginning for me to buy into what happened (or understand why it happened). Overall there was too much ambiguity involving Veronica's mother and the implied affair with Adrian, even Veronica's character didn't sit well with me in the end. I did enjoy the writing so my rating is 2.5 stars but the ending - or the sense of one - stopped me giving it a 3. I will be reading more by Julian Barnes.

This book brings me to tears every time I read it. Valerie's story as the survivor of a school shooting in which she is implicated as a conspirator is so moving. My students love this book, my coworkers love this book, and I recommend it all the time.

This series is one of the best YA series that I've read in a while. The ethical, personal, technolgical and nature vs progress dillemas spin depper and deeper in this book. Tally's journey is never easy, but this time it seems like the fate of the rebels, and perhaps civilization itself, rests on her shoulders more than ever. The conclusion of Tally's story is heart wrenching and bittersweet. This book is great but make sure that you read them in order- don't spoil the ending! Book 4 to come next- Not Tally's story but set years down the road.

Chick-lit story about the formerly overweight Addie and her best friend from childhood. Story shifts back and forth between childhood and adulthood and quickly takes on a "murder mystery" quality when events go awry during a high school reunion. Weiner tells the story as she winds through the lives of several characters. It wasn't a gripping read, but there were a few surprising twists and turns among the predictable events. Light summer reading.

Here's the thing. I love goats. I love absurd. I adore dark. And Please give me more stories about beats. Insert cliche, common opinion review of Tob Robbins gender roles and style here. Three stars from me just means that everybody could read this once. Like Life of Pi.

"...our present narrative is, however, at an end" (p. 656). Sweeter words were never written. I know this is a classic that will be long remembered, but it never totally clicked for me. It was long, plodding, and I didn't like the main character. There is something to be said abotu finishing it, but I don't know what that would be.
