Love this book - Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite live authors (top 5 for sure) and the Mistborn series is my favorite of his. This book, the first in the series, is my particular favorite. The characters are immense and gripping in their realization on the page. They all seem like they could be real people because of the depth with which Sanderson describes them, the perfection of their interactions with their intricate world. Exciting and compelling, the action never seems to grow tiresome. I absolutely recommend this book and this whole series to any/all fantasy fans; I consider this a must-read for all those who count themselves among that group.

Easy to read retelling of the Southeby's & Christie's auction houses price fixing scandal. Disclaimer: I have a weakness for stories of corporate fraud.

I think I "stole" my copy from someone (Nate?) ... it will not be returned.

This book is poetic fiction. Little twists of history. All the exploration of the spirit and faces of humanity -- the coping, loss, grief, wasn't too heavy, even for me. Besides all that, it's beautifully introspective and well articulated.

My father's family is obsessed with Mormons, I think it's fair to say. Well..not Mormons. Most of the Mormons I've known have been perfectly regular people. If you're Mormon, please forgive me if that sounds callous. We are, however, obsessed with Mormonism, and have been since my aunt and uncle took a trip to Salt Lake City many years ago and came back with something we call "The Mormon Movie". "The Mormon Movie" is like the axis point of a fascination that's gone on for years and is easy to explain: we're Lutherans. As Lutheran, in fact, as they come. My grandfather co-founded the church my parents grew up in, and my dad and uncle were both pastors as younger men. My mom's family went to that Lutheran church, too, her mother was the choir director. The story goes on. So for us, the stories of rites and rituals, of Jesus visiting the Americas, of holy underwear, of plural marriage, almost seemed too fantastical to be true. Despite the inaccuracies of some of our perceptions of the LDS, this curiousity definitely added to my interest and enjoyment of this book, which is not so much a criticism of the Mormon Church as a look into how its history led to some very gruesome murders. LDS, of course, was not too thrilled with it, but I thought the book does a pretty evenhanded job of presenting facts more than opinions. I read it for my father's book club, and we had a debate about how fair he was being. But we also argued about how valuable participation in a religious institution is in the first place, or how corrupting it can be (I should add that the murderers in this book were part of a few different sects of Mormonism that were NOT part of the LDS). At any rate, it made us think and debate a lot, and it made us angry. That alone, I think, is a good reason to pick this one up.

It's not going to change the world, but it's a fun book, entertainingly written, and made me crave a Snickers bar like never before in my life.

This is another sequel of Naruto Volume 9. In this volume, the battle of Hinata and Neji ended with Neji victorious, but Hinata has a fatal injury. Now that the match has ended, another match is announced; the match of Gaara of the Sand village and Lee of the Leaf village. Gaara of the Sand uses sand from his gourd he keeps on his back for defense and offense. Lee however, uses traditional fighting due to his lack of ability to perform spells like normal ninja, he is a trained fighter. Will Lee come out victorious, or will Gaara get him first? While I was reading this book, I made a text to world connection. I made a connection to the many professional atheletes of the world. I relate this to atheletes because many like challenges, like running marathons, going to the Olympics, and much more. In the book, everyone fears Gaara for his protective sand, but that means nothing to Lee, just like how atheletes keep pushing themselves and doing new challenges. I rate this book 5 stars because I really like the personality of Lee and how his past affected his future. Also, Gaara had a horrid past too, it is very intresting seeing how pasts are similar and then how the futures can be entirely different.

Decius is having the time of his life traveling around Italy as Praetor Peregrinus, putting on counterfeit dignitas and judging cases in all the luxury towns. At the Temple of Apollo and Hecate, he becomes aware of the activities of a mass murderer. He is happy to focus on the mystery while he tries to ignore the threat posed by the impending clash between Caesar and Pompey. With Pompey in the district and Decius himself married to Caesar's niece, this isn't easy, but an arrow in his chest makes finding the conspirators imperative. I thought at first that ORACLE OF THE DEAD was too light even for this light series, but eventually the fun, excitement and intrigue jell for a satisfying read.
