Why this book has a four star plus rating is beyond me. I mean really? There are just so many things WRONG AND BULLSHIT with this book that it makes me wonder WHY this stupid crap deserves so much positive reviews. These books are very cute. I wish they'd been out when I was 7 or 8. The names of the characters alone are enough to keep you reading, and the story of the littlest viking who is destined to be the leader of the tribe is both hilarious and inspiring. I really, really like these.

I cannot say enough good things about this collection of short stories. Having spent my life in the midwest, I fully appreciate Anderson's eye for the subtleties of small town life. His depiction of a fictional town and all of its characters is incredibly vivid. I love every story, particularly "Paper Pills." Actually, on reflection, I'm not even sure that it is a collection of short stories. My copy disappeared long ago in one of my many moves. It may, in fact, be a novel in a format that suggested a collection of short stories. I may have invented the short story title "Paper Pills" to describe a chapter that I particularly enjoyed. It doesn't really matter. Drop what you're reading and buy/shoplift it.

There were a lot of vignettes in this story that I loved, but as a whole it did not really grab me. I found the portion of the book set in the Artic especially tedious.

أحلام لا تنتمي لعالمنا قطعا، فهي لا تكتب بلغتنا، هي تستخدم حروفها فقط لتعزف لنا اروع المقطوعات الموسيقية، رغم ان كتابها النسيان يحوي تحذيرا بمنع بيعه للرجال، فهو موجه للنساء فقط، الا ان الفضول كاد يقتلني فكان لابد لي من التحايل على زوجتي لتشتريه -ولا ادري ان كنت ساندم على ذلك لاحقا- لاتطفل على عالم النساء وما هي المؤامرة التي تقودها أحلام ضدنا معشر الرجال الكتاب هو عبارة عن مؤامرة نسائية بامتياز، فهي توجه نصائحها للنساء اللاتي يبقين يمارسن دور الضحية رغم ما يتعرضن له من الرجال، ويبقين في انتظار عودة الحبيب بعد الفراق والهجران، فتحاول ان تغريهن بالنسيان والبدء من جديد، تحاول ان تفهم النساء ان الحياة لا تدور حول رجلها المزعوم، وان في الحياة الكثير مما يستحق ان تعيش لأجله، تسرد أحداثا وقصصا وقصاصات وأقوال ومعاني وفلسفات في محاولات يائسة لإيقاظ النساء وتشجيعهن على النسيان ونفض غبار الماضي من خلال قصتها مع إحدى ضحايا الرجال في اسلوب أدبي رائع رفيع تشعر وأنت تقرأ لأحلام، وكأنك تعيش في عالم آخر جميل، وكأنك في غرفة كلاسيكية في أحد القصور الفرنسية تحتسي كوباً من الشاي في فناجين بنكهة باريسية هو دعوة لتمرد لذيذ، وتشهد خاتمة الكتاب والقصة الموجودة بين ثناياه بذلك، فيا معشر الرجال لا تحزنوا ان تغير النساء وما عادوا يصيرون على آذاكم، وعلى جبروتكم وتسلطكم، فانتم المستفيدون في النهاية تجدون في الكتاب مقالتان هما من أروع ما كتبت أحلام، مقالاتان تجعلنا نعيد التفكير في مبادئنا وحكمنا الظالم على الأشخاص واحتكارنا للدين وأهله، مقالتان ربما كان لهما من الأثر في نفوس بناتنا أكثر من عشرات المحاضرات والخطب الوعظية، مقالتان تجعلنا ندعو لهذه الكاتبة دوما بأن يجعلها الله من أهل الجنة، مقالتان تردان على كل من حاول يوماً أن يصور لنا أحلام كشيطان رجيم قادم من كوكب آخر المقالتان: "اختبري بتقواه أخلاق قلبه" "صلي ففي سجود قلبك نسانه" كتاب لا أمل قراءته، فهو كما أخبرتكم مقطوعة موسيقية كلاسيكية

I remember Sick Puppy as being one of the funniest books I ever read. It was a summer read that went right. It's eco-crazy, how-the-fuck-did-the-story-get-here scenes, and a descriptive style that works well. I honestly haven't read any other Carl Hiassen book, so I don't know if he's formulaic, but I loved it here.

Für Herr der Ringe Fans ein echtes Muss. Es liest sich eher wie die Bibel, aber mir hat es trotzdem unglaublichen Spaß gemacht, die Geschichte zu verfolgen, Stammbäume anzulegen und über die Entstehung von Mittelerde zu lesen.

Evan's father has been transferred to Atlanta, so Evan has to stay with his great-aunt Kathryn, while his parents look for a new house. His great-aunt is completely deaf, refuses to learn sign language or to lip-read, and is, in his father's words, a bit weird. It's not all bad, though. When he takes his dog, Trigger, for a walk, he meets Andrea--Andy. She's twelve, like him, and they share a sense of humor, so they become fast friends. While looking around a toy store, they find a can of 'Monster Blood.' It's cold, stretchy, green, bouncy, glows in the dark, and seems to be growing larger. After trigger eats some, he grows bigger, too. Soon, Evan has more Monster Blood than he can handle, and seems almost... hungry. Monster Blood is the third entry in R. L. Stine's Goosebumps series, and is reminiscent of The Blob. It must have proved popular, because it was followed up by several sequels, including the sixty-second and final Goosebumps book, Monster Blood IV. (Spoilers removed. The full review, including spoilers, is available here.) Monster Blood is fairly entertaining, and the twist at the end is better integrated into the story than in the previous two Goosebumps books. I think that the prose is better in Monster Blood, too. The story of an all-consuming blob is a fun bit of classic horror, repackaged for kids. This one's also available for the Kindle, as Classic Goosebumps #3, so give it a try, whether you prefer paper or electronic books.
