Great book, page turner. The book is about prostitution but reads as a philosophical look into sex, love and existence.

Extremely helpful, quite dense. If you expect to learn, be ready to work through the proofs and understand the steps. Don't attempt to just read through them and expend to "get it".

Katie says that I'm becoming a small Japanese woman, and it's all thanks to this book. I don't really use this book to cook during the winter or high summer, but it is great for recipes in the spring and fall. many of the recipes involve a lot of high heat but also a lot of fresh vegetables. It's an excellent and concise cookbook with a lot of explanation and good illustrations.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. Since it is written from more of an Eastern mentality the concept of war is handled in a way I find much more humanistic. The book is not about communism and is not even, I do not think, closely tied to being Vietnamese. Instead this book encompasses the title, literally. The author explores the sorrow that he felt, and the ways in which he attempted to come to terms with it. Although the timeline for the novel is slightly chaotic, the meta fictional elements sustain a certain amount of order. An individual who read this book and discussed it at Texas Tech insighted that this book could very easily have been written by an American soldier. Considering he fought in Vietnam I trust his perception. The story was certainly not ideological harping which I greatly appreciated. The ideas of loss and sorrow were touching in a universal way. Some of the scenes in the book are quite graphic, which of course can be expected. in the same way the war is handled though many of the most grpahic scenes are not spelled out but merely understood. Overall a very insightful and moving read.

I like this book even more after teaching it. There is so much symbolism and loads of great psychological questions to spark discussion. I wish I had started this earlier in the year, so we could've delved into it more. Read Aug. 2012

I liked the steampunk parts of the story, I liked the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde aspect, and I liked all of the characters individually, but somehow, I ended up less than impressed by the story as a whole. Part of it is that there isn't just one love triangle, but TWO. Completely unnecessary. I hate love triangles (as I've said many many times before), and I think that too much of this book was spent paying attention to them. Another problem I had is about the novella in the beginning of the story. "The Strange Case of Finley Jayne" is a prequel novella included in the ebook. It was good, but you can definitely tell that it was written after the original story was. Finley is so much more accepting of her powers in the short story, and the overall tone is more badass than the book. I wish that the way the ebook was written carried into to main story. I'm hoping that if I continue the series, it is mre like the ebook and less like the original story. Overall, I wish I liked this story more than I do. I think there's a lot of potential in it, and I'm disappointed that so much of the book was dedicated to Finley agonizing over who she liked better, Griffin or Jack Dandy (personally, if I have to choose, I'd pick Dandy). I might continue the series, but it depends on if it's on Overdrive or not. (It was nice to check one of the first books I added on Goodreads though)

** spoiler alert ** I loved the romance and interaction of the couple in Lockdown. I would give that part of the story 4 stars. I guess I was expecting more action in the story. I also felt it ended too abruptly, I wanted more action near the end. The best action scene in the story is in the middle of the story dealing with a houseboat wreck and it was very intense! I wish there would have been more of that intensity near the end. Overall it was a good read, but Royal Target and Undercurrents are still my favorite books that Traci has written.

When I saw the description of AND I SHALL HAVE SOME PEACE THERE comparing the book to EAT PRAY LOVE (without the travel) I knew I had to add this to my to-be-read list! Okay, I still need to re-read Eat Pray Love (and give it another chance after seeing the movie, which I loved!) but I'm really interested in reading about another journey to self-discovery... especially one that starts in a place like New York and moves elsewhere. Review upcoming!
