I just finished Alice LaPlante's debut novel, "Turn of Mind," and I thought it was fantastic. It's the story of a doctor who is succumbing to Alzheimer's, losing more of her life/memory every day, in the midst of a murder investigation in which she is a suspect. The really interesting part is that the entire book is told from the doctor's perspective, which gives a whole new spin on the concept of an unreliable narrator. It's a fast, tight read and you won't want to put it down. Really excellent.

This was an incredible book. There was so much emotion and twisted feelings that I didn't know what was going on! This is a good book for people who have problems like this.

Every single book of this series always had me wondering.. thinking.. trying to take apart what was going to happen next. There was never a time in the series when i was like "this is getting boring." I always wanting to keep on reading it. In fact, the second book I read the whole thing in about 2 days. In the Mockingjay, a lot of things become answered. Especially the fact about how there is actually a District 13 and it is real. I still do have some questions that I feel need to be answered such as, What ever really happened to Gale? He just got over Katniss so fast.. just because people felt she wouldn't ever come back to normal? I want to know more about what Gale was feeling during that time and what ever happened to him. Did he die young? Did he have a family? You know those sorts of things..

The POV seems to shift and with the imprecise attribution/dialogue, what started as interesting ended feeling like a gimmick. I have to say that aside from the framework, I really liked the theme within the book: everyone wants to belong. I also liked how Gordimer treated the post-Africa portion. Interesting to me that the natural world/landscape became a part of the book that was only present when her need to belong was fulfilled.

This is a book you'll want to keep. If you're a designer, it's a great reference (and a way to support an argument) and if you're not a designer, it offers and interesting perspective on design.

I read the enitre book in one sitting...that's how suspenseful it is. It's also really frightening, holding a light up to our own society...how far could we go? I'm ready to start book 2, there's gotta be a revolution coming?

In transforming scattered Arthurian legends into masterful storytelling, Marion Zimmer Bradley does it better in The Mists of Avalon. But, Miles' Guenevere is much more likable than Bradley's whiny caricature. It's a good start to a decent trilogy, and much less intimidating to read than Mists in both volume and reputation.
