See my review for The History of Love. I liked this book but was annoyed after I read Krauss's book and saw that it was essencially the same story. When I realized they were married I felt like they were trying to pull something over their readers' eyes. Of the two, though, I thought this one was better written.

To give this book fewer than five stars would be a statement that it was somehow incomplete or flawed. How could I find fault with something so heartfelt and genuine? This is a book I will not read again. This is a book I did not ENJOY reading, but it is a book that is worth reading. It is a book that uplifts, even while it subdues. Would I recommend this book to my friends? Only certain of them. If you like to read books that entertain and put your brain on cruise control, this isn't the book for you. If you like books that feed you and make you grateful for the gifts God has given you, this is a book you won't want to miss.

Solid story about a girl who must leave her idyllic family farm on Vancouver Island and travel to Oregon to check on, and maybe bring home, her ailing grandparents. The year is 2041, and Molly must face numerous obstacles and challenges on her journey south, the main one being the Collapse of the USA - economically, if not necessarily politically. Seattle looks horrible, and Portland doesn't fare much better. While I had quibbles with the author's vision of the future, on the whole this is an engaging read. Still, it never felt like she was fighting for her survival, or truly threatened. I'll booktalk it to middle school kids.
