A sometimes gripping take on surviving captivity. I had a mixed reaction to the five-year-old narrator. Because he is a child who knows nothing different, he reveals Room gradually, with a chilling matter-of-factness. I did think, though, that at points the voice seemed inauthentic or became grating. The author is at her best building tension around the planning and execution of Ma and Jack's escape; I don't think I breathed for several pages. I found the second half of the book less successful, with a focus on viewing the world from an outsider's perspective that felt too familiar. The parts about relationships worked better for me, particularly Ma and Jack's renegotiating theirs and the beautifully drawn bond Jack builds with Steppa.

More please! Great collection of comics. Enjoyed the sheer variety of artists and their interpretations of the many "missed connections" included in this anthology. Some of my favorites: Marshmallow!! by Rama Hughes May 20, 1987 by Dan Archer Cute boy at Jimmy's in Brooklyn by Julia Wertz Looking for Print Pal by Matt Leunig So...She married me anyway by Jonathan Baylis and T.J. Kirsch Ahh! I'm flipping through the pages trying to absorb my favorites as I type out the titles. I have to return this book to the library today and I'm already having separation anxiety.
