“I am Outcast.” Those are words that will stay in my mind forever, probably because they relate so well to me. That line is from the book Speak. Speak is about a fourteen year old girl who is outcasted by her school after she called the cops at an end of summer party. I really liked this book. It was written very well and Every page made me feel her pain. At the time I read it, I was also an ‘outcast’ and didn’t have many friends. I related to her, and the book launched my trip into the world of writing. Ever since I first read that book, my life has gone through many ups and deep downs, but every single time I came back to that book as a source of comfort. It helped to know that even in a fictional book, I wasn’t alone.

It seems like the author took some liberties with the material, yet as a reader I didn't mind. He gave his insight on what HE thought - as an educated person on Washington - what Washington would have thought or felt. I am just fascinated with Washington - this book really shows him for a man - one with faults - and brings to life a sliver of the past. It also helped that I had seen the John Adams mini series recently - since I could see the same events through different eyes. Truly, the founding fathers were not perfect, were not always co-operative, but they were just what this country needed at that exact moment in time. After reading this book I have no doubt that God placed these men - imperfect men - to do the impossible.

Asbolutely horrible book, if didnt have to read it for school then I would have never. Yes it deals with some very complex issues regarding race and the depression but its a seriously boring book. Who ever think narration by a young girl could be interesting! I had to severely push myself to finish this book.

Amazing. I devoured it. It is such a moving and sad comment on how life can go completely wrong--and the cycle that perpetuates it. I liked the way the story was told too. Even though it was anecdotal, it felt like it had suspense.
