Reinforces the idea that if we want children to read, then it is our job to inspire them with books that will interest them and GIVE THEM TIME TO READ. Gives a lot of great book recommendations and ideas to get children reading. I just had an experience with my son, Jed, who is a junior in High School. It was the last 2 weeks of school, he had taken all of his AP tests and they were not really doing much in those classes but playing games etc. Jed had several books he needed to have read for a conference he was going to. The teachers would let him read in class--yah, right, with all the noise of 30 other people playing and making noise)--but not let him go to the library, but of course still had to be at school to do his seat time, even though he could have been accomplishing a lot more at home. So sad our school system doesn't encourage reading more--so very sad, but this teacher helps to combat that, THANKS!

I am a great fan of Deborah Crombie's Kincaid mysteries and English mysteries in general. I thought I had read all except her latest, but I was surprised to find that I had not read this one, which was the first in the series. It didn't disappoint. I love rambling through the English country side, or through London with the main characters and trying to discover"who done it" along with them. I am surprised PBS hasn't made these mysteries into a series.

Not much story, mostly anti death penalty sermon. If this was my first Grisham, I wouldn't have read another.

wonderful translation of a book originally written in spanish. i´m sure it is even more beautiful to read in its original language! í´d give this book 3 1/2 stars if i could. to call it a mystery is to sell it short; it is also a story of love, friendship (to a lesser degree) and redemption.

Purchased from the $1 shelf at The Strand, mostly because I heard that the author is working on a novelization of the life of Charlotte Brontë (something on the order of the movie 'Becoming Jane' about Austen) and I was curious. After reading this, I'm not sure I will be up for the new book. Wish I could get my dollar back and use it to buy something more useful, like a soda to rot my teeth.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Liked her style... the way she drew you into the characters/plot. Loved the story within the story. Its been a few months, so should have reviewed when it was fresher in my mind, but generally felt that the older man Leo was such a well-crafted character. Very real. you feel him so well...his sorrow, his imagination is SO real (ie imaginary world, and such an understanding of WHY he has this imaginary world). I also loved the driving plot that moved you forward, as well as the authors sharp, witty prose. Some of the lines for Leo cracked me up. I felt he was very original and smart. The girl was not as interesting... However, there were not any of those "wow" passages where she (nicole) pulls it all together succinctly. Felt like it ended, and it was a good end plot-wise, but it left me wanting more...not creative enough to exaplain in better than that:-) With that said, still a 4 our of 5. Very much enjoyed reading it. About to read her husband's book. Should be interesting to see how they play off each other in their writing.

Cute, charming, endearing. Memoir of a NYC temp who decides to cook all the recipes in Julia Child's Master the Art of French Cooking (can't figure out how to underline here) in one year. The book is interspersed with excerpts from Julia Child's husbands letters and Julie's blog. Light, entertaining, and true to life!

I'm not used to old english. I don't know. May be something to do with english being my 2nd language. And for some odd reason, reading experience is similar to watching Kurosawa's Drunken Angel. How should I put it. Hmmm... I get 2 pages in 24 FPS. Smooth, easy to follow. Then, I lose track of words and sentences here and there. Back track and read it again didn't help. It's like watching slideshow. Then my brain picks up again for few more pages then followed by a gripping event/image that lingers around for next several pages. While still coping with a event/image word start to blur and I lose track of story again. Kurosawa's Drunken Angel is like that. Flow, flow, still, flow, cut, cut, flow, still, cut , flow, flow, still. The end.

Fantastic and vital to the Dark Tower, The Drawing of the Three introduces some very important people to us as Roland fights to overcome the infection from the lobstrosity attack. I couldn't put this book down.

My 11 year old son was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This is the best book I've found (highly recommended by other parents of T1 kids) for truly understanding the disease and how to adjust insulin to offset the carbs he eats.
