If you like mysteries, or used to like mysteries, (and I don't mean mass-market stuff like Jeffrey Deaver), you will like this. Literate, and the plot will keep your interest. Begins in Greece spends more time in England...lots of surprises. Robert Goddard writes very good novels which nearly always contain a clever mystery twist.

It was an enjoyable book, but for me it lacked the technical description of the boat, the re-build and the descriptive narrative of the yachting terminology for someone new to this. The story nonetheless is interesting in general terms, due to the events surrounding the America's Cup, however it lacks dates, times and other inter-twining events which would have made it a more compelling and convincing tale. I say that it lacked credibility because whilst it is about a beautiful and real life boat and based on (some) actual events, it is fiction (I didn't realise at the time of buying it and would not have if I'd known). Further, the story is intertwined with maori folklore and also the spirit world / appearance of past people associated with the Erewhon. Still, it keeps the reader engrossed, which make a good read, even though for me, the story lacks closure.

Rick Riordan is awesome. Sometimes I find that some of his dialogue/descriptions are a little bit strained and weird sounding, but the way he weaves Greek mythology into his stories is masterful! This book is really relevant to my Classics class, and I felt I have learnt a lot about Roman AND Greek mythology. I'm a huge Percy Jackson fan, so it was cool to see some of the old characters again, although I did find myself missing Percy! Hopefully he'll join the story in one of the later books in the series. I loved the new characters (especially Leo, who makes me laugh,) and appreciated the way Riordan linked this book into the Percy Jackson series in subtle ways throughout the book. It's a fun, entertaining, humorous and educational novel that can be enjoyed whether you've read Percy Jackson or not (although I think people who have read Percy Jackson [and not just seen the movie!] will appreciate it more.) I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment!
