** spoiler alert ** Another Law firm book from Ms James. Cameron Lynde, assistant DA, needs some R & R to recuperate from her busy life. Checking into a hotel, she settles down to a night of peace and quiet. Unfortunately, this is not meant to be and she unwittingly becomes a witness to a murder in which a top senator is the prime suspect. In enters Agent Jack Pallas. The last time Agent Pallas saw Cameron she was walking out of the office he walked into just before he was transferred. He blames her for dropping the case that he spent 6 months gathering evidence for and, ultimately, his transfer to Alaska. The last thing he expects is to end up babysitting her because she is the only witness to a murder that could bring down a top US official. Cameron is not happy to be spending so much close contact with the man who publicly proclaimed that she “had her head up her ass”. Hot he may be, but the man irritates her with every word he utters. However, with all that close contact, will either of them be able to keep the brewing sexual tension at bay? Another winner for me here In the Julie James stakes! This is much more along the Romantic Suspense lines than the others and it worked really well. The dislike between the two characters is well thought out and believable; it stands to reason that, no matter how misguided the reasoning, they wouldn’t want to be in the same room as each other. Cameron is a completely different creature to the woman that dealt with Jack the first time around. She’s tough, independent and fights for what she believes in. She isn’t stupid with the way she deals with the situation; she knows that she isn’t the expert in this situation, so is happy to let the Police take the lead. I found her utterly refreshing because she wasn’t stupid enough to think she knew best. Jack is a stubborn, snarky SOB, but man is he hot! He hates Cameron, but he can’t fight his attraction to her. Not once, does he let his personal feelings interfere with his role of protecting her and I utterly respected the professional behaviour of both characters. It made me believe in them a little more, and I found I waited with baited breath to see if the situation could be resolved to allow them to get together. I also loved the fact that Jack’s partner took such great delight in pointing out that Jacks snarkiness was partly because he was very attracted to woman; that kind of bromance type behaviour is guaranteed to keep me reading! The side story was well fleshed out and helped the relationship develop. The basic premise was that people were after killing Cameron because she was a witness to the crime. These people were incredibly clever, therefore there was more than a few sticky situations for her to get out of. I liked that there was no “man must be saviour” cave-man like attitude. She had an equal role in protecting herself. The side characters were good and I’m looking forward to seeing what becomes of Wilkes. The sex scenes were OK. There wasn’t a great amount of detail but to be honest that wouldn’t have fit with the style of the book. A fab read which has put Julie James on my auto buy list

Özel Seri Swing Sayı: 73 Mister Blöf-Beyaz Squaw-Ontario'da Dehşet TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

There is so much in this book to make you say “Wow”. Sure, there’s a lot here that’s been done before… a post-apocalyptic world where the people are oppressed and forced to take part in some winner-takes-all contest to the death is nothing new, but here it is done so well. Katniss is everything you would expect from a girl that’s had to take care of herself and her family most of her life. She’s simple, straight to the point, does what needs to be done however she has to, and yes, a little cold. But she’s also stunted. She’s so busy being a grown-up that she’s never had time to be a teenage girl, and her people skills are certainly lacking. When she throws herself into the Games in order to save her much younger sister, she’s forced to come to terms with her weaknesses. The Games themselves are a horrifying construction. 24 children (yes, children — they’re all 18 or younger) are forced into an arena of unknown makeup (will it be a forest? a desert? a frozen wasteland? will there be water? wildlife? edible plants?) and are left there to kill or be killed until there is one victor. As if that alone isn’t enough, the games makers are there to shake things up and encourage battle, and the entire thing is televised, 24 hours a day. Katniss’s fight for survival is not only a physical one, but an emotional one, as she struggles with her feelings for fellow tribute, Peeta. Since there is a second book (and supposedly a third), I’m going to assume that you realize that Katniss makes it through this alive. However, all is not necessarily well, and the way the book ends makes you wish there was just one more chapter. The abruptness of the ending has upset some people, but I think it’s appropriate. It leaves you wondering and a little bit confused, much like Katniss is herself. Because remember, despite what she’s done and what she’s been through, she’s still just a 16 year old girl. As a side note, if you’re considering this for your young adult reader, there’s no sex or bad language here, but there is a *lot* of violence, some of it quite gruesome. Can’t wait for book 2.

When I began reading, I was a little confused Marguerite was dead already. I was baffled and a little upset that the story had already finished pretty much. However, I pushed myself to keep reading. It turns out Armand comes into the picture and he's all sad and depressed because his love is dead. Armand and the narrator becomes fast friends. The narrator has Armand tell his and Marguerite's love story. After then the book did become better. Thank goodness. I sort of fell for this story, I think it shows how sometimes love isn't perfect and it shows no matter how much you may love someone, you can't be together. It showed the realism of how different social classes could never be together. Armand is the guy every girl wants, loyal, loving, dedicated, and is willing to put his reputation on the line for you. Marguerite maybe a courtesan, she does seem to have a heart-of-gold. I love the characters and how the story unfolds, even though I knew she was going to die at the end, I rooted for their love the whole way. I was hoping they would be together forever, but that's not reality. It's a wonderful read for those who want to read about true love. The only thing I didn't like about it was the beginning. I think that it confuses readers and it spoils how the story ends. I sort of know why he wrote the beginning like that (because he explains his reasons a tad bit), but I hate when books do that. Also, I despised the character Madame Prudence, she was just an annoying unneeded character (in my view).
