I think this book is awesome. This is one of my favorite books I would rate it five out five because it is a very easy to understand the story. I also loved it because of the way the author lined up the events of the story. This is a great book for me since it is for young adults and it won the Newberry Award. I also liked this book because it is written by Louis Sachar which for me writes very good books such as “There’s a boy in the girls Bathroom.” From this book they made out a movie which I have already seen. The movie obviously does not include as many detail as in the book. By having more detail in the book I understood the book way more than the movie. I would recommend you to read the book first and then watch the movie. You will get a pretty good idea of what the story is about. The story is about a kid that lives with his family which has always had bad luck. Stanley Yelnats Which is the main character gets blamed of stealing a pair of shoes. Instead of Jail he gets taken to a camp called Camp Green Lake in the desert to build up character digging five by five holes to find something. That big desert was a lake some years in the past and they are looking for a treasure. I’ll let you find out the rest. Read it!!

I finally finished this book last week. When I first began reading, I was eager to get through it, but for some reason the story fizzled out for me and I found myself losing interest the further I got. I enjoyed the setting and that the main character was a great lover of books.

Not the best and not the worst serial killer mystery out there. I didn't like the fact that Archie loves his kidnapper/torturer, somehow I doubt Stockholm syndrome would go that far. And when the bad guy was caught, what was up with the lame James Bond confession speech? I half expected the guy to say "I expect you to die now Det. Sheridan." Hopefully Sweetheart will be a lot better.

An incredibly fun read and really darn close to a superb book. Martel effectively avoids getting trapped by the cleverness of his concept and writes a heck of a yarn and also manages to have a legitimate, creative, and engaging discussion on faith, human nature, and the sustaining power of creativity. Unfortunately it seems like he suffered either a gap in confidence and/or capacity at two points in the book where the tone and flow of the book is disrupted and we the reader are jarred out of the dream he otherwise so effectively summons. The first is forgivable, if not ignorable, while the second, which serves as the last section of the book, serves as an unnecessary coda to make sure we, reader, “get it,” and significantly disrupts the narrative as a whole, using a slapstick bilingual discussion, complete with cutesy font to clarify the non-English speech, as a ham-handed ending to a book that is otherwise mostly graceful and whimsical in the very best ways.
Mary Roach is amazing - I'm am in awe that anyone can write books that are equally informative and fascinating and laugh out loud on the bus funny. This one explores how corpses can continue to be contributing members of society. Not or the faint of stomach. Its a great book and gaurantees I will donate my body to research - as long as I can get them to promise they won't practice plastic surgery on my severed head - that part was a little creepy.

Clever book....enjoyed the comparisons and the irreverence.

What made me pick up a 300 page book about a world wide war against zombies, zombies being a topic thoroughly beaten to a pulp by a deluge of movies, comics, and various other mediums of late, was a blurb on the back cover describing Mr. Brooks as "the Studs Terkel of zombie journalism." I couldn't pass that up. The book is basically set up as an oral history in the vein of Terkel's The Good War, with people sharing stories of their experiences in surviving the Living Dead. The book presents a fully realized vision of what would happen were such a preposterous event to take place, and flushes out even the most minute, yet profound detail of struggle against the armies of undead from urban pacification and public policy initiatives needed to preserve the human race, to the experiences of individuals doing their best to survive in a society torn asunder by an inexplicable event. The writing is compulsively readable and the structure is set up in a way that each of the accounts works as a compelling story in its own right. Overall, an excellent piece of the horror-genre (zombie lit?) fiction.

Beğenmedim ve Karen Joy Fowler'ın Jane Austen'in kitaplarını gerçekten okumuş olup olmadığını merak ettim!
