Deadly Fear is one of the best (if not the best) romantic-suspense novels I have ever read, hands down! The new FBI devision, SSD, works solely on serial-killer crimes and when a new killer is on the loose agents Monica Davenport and Luke Dante have to team up to prevent the "the Watchmam" from choosing his next victim. But the killer is always one step ahead of them and when Monica herself is asked "what scares you?" it seems they know exactly who the next victim is supposed to be! Monica and Luke are one hot couple and while their shared history is an issue, it isn't something that turns up all the time. The balance between crime and romance was perfect and nicely intertwined. There are hardly any scenes that are solely focused on the relationship between Luke and Monica or dozens of pages only about the killer. So, it didn't make me want to skip any pages to get to the good parts^^ A GR friend of mine, who also loved the book, had one very fitting expression, I thought. She said, this is one creepy book . And she is so right! The killer and his 'What scares you?' notes were beyond creepy and I broke out in goosebumps about every two seconds. Still do, only thinking about it. A good crime/suspense novel leaves you guessing, trembling and cowering behind your bed at night:) And while I maybe wasn't cowering, I never would have guessed who the Watchman could be, although I had more than one suspicion. Cynthia Eden has a gift for writing crime and supense and I immediately ordered the next two books in the series: Deadly Heat and Deadly Lies For anyone who wants to read more of Cynthia Eden, she also writes great paranormal crime (i.e. Hotter After Midnight and many more)!

Read as part of the Transworld Book Group Reading Challenge - interesting enough to finish in a day, but not without flaws. If you enjoy the occasional Dan Brown as a guilty pleasure, you'll probably enjoy this

If you're interested in learning about the lives of the women that were married to Henry VIII, or have a degree in English History, this book is still interesting and very informative. Weir has certainly done her research and doesn't make it hard to read. On the contrary, it is very engaging and intriguing. Don't let the length deter you from picking this book up. A great one to keep on the bookshelf for a years to come!

the entire book is written in prose-poetry. Sometimes, if you are guessing what it's saying, then it really is poetry.

Yudkowsky's fanfiction "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality" is a fun and easy introduction to the topics of rationality and cognitive biases. The plot is interesting and Yudkowsky manages to fit in ideas from the world of rationality in every chapter. My favourite quote: "I quit, said Harry's mind. Find yourself a different computing substrate to solve your ridiculously overcostrained problems" :-)

John and I started listening to this book on CD together, and we got hooked. It was such a fascinating new perspective of WW2 to hear it from a teenage girl. It felt like Anne was always at the bursting point as she hid away for 2 years-- with cabin fever (obviously), with boy-craziness, with annoyance towards her mom, with anxiety, with pride, with opinions, etc. It made John and me VERY concerned if we ever have to raise a teenage daughter! It was so sad to know how this diary would end, especially down to the last few months before the hideout was discovered by the Nazis. It just made me sick to hear the epilogue of what happened to everyone. I can't believe this atrocity toward Jews was so recent in our world's history. The only problem with this book is that it breaks your heart-- on one day when listened to it right before work, two different co-workers asked me what was wrong and if I was having a bad day! I guess I was frowning too much. If you haven't read this yet (or you read it a while ago and can't remember much), run to the library right now and get it!

This combination YA dystopia and adventure story is a rip-roaring good read, as well as a sober look at a post-apocalyptic world resulting from environmental havoc that doesn't sound far-fetched. Highly recommended.
