I really enjoyed this book. The addition of an Irish servant girl gives a new spin to typical plantation life. I loved the whole dynamic of the characters that worked in the big house. Kathleen Grissom did a wonderful job creating rich and believable characters. She really captured the hardships and plight of slaves. Slavery is such an awful and dark part of our country's history and Grissom really succeeded in highlighting this awful truth.

Really great book. I heard a lot of great things about this book from people that I really trust to give me good reviews. It was short, to the point, and let you know a little of what to expect without giving more information than I would be ready to hear. It also gave some really good suggestions about places to study in the scriptures to prepare to help understand the symbols.

Review originally posted at Doodle's Book Blog This is the second book I have read by Jennifer Echols and I thought it would fit as a Valentine's Day post perfectly. This book provides suspense, turmoil and romance for the reader to enjoy. So who is Zoey Commander? She is the smart, talented girl who is everyone's friend. But she is also going through a lot with parents divorce and her mom's mental breakdown unable to tell her two best friends. Keke and Lila know nothing about her mom, just that she is out of town. Brandon is the star of the football team and the guy who tends to get around, if you know what I mean. He goes to Zoey for all of his girl problems and she finds him to be a sweet person and a good friend. And Doug? Well, he is the criminal who went to juvie in ninth grade, the star on the swim team, and the guy Zoey turns to when she loses her memory. I really enjoyed reading this book both times I read it. This book showed me two things that I think everyone needs to remember. One, lying doesn't get you anywhere. If anything, it will hurt those who you trust most because you couldn't trust them with information. And two, sometimes you just need to open your eyes and realize what's right in front of you. This book started off a little slow but all the information that was provided during the lulls helps bring the book together in the end. I had moments while reading where my jaw would drop, I would cover my face and go "Really," and other moments where I would laugh. Overall, this book is a wonderful read that I could sit down to anytime I need a good laugh or facepalm moment.

Not as fascinating as Princes in the Tower or Wars of the Roses, but that's mainly due to the subject material. Unfortunately--as has been noted by many--not much is known about Eleanor, and the book is more about the famous queen's family, with brief notes here and there apologizing for a lack of information about the woman herself. Ms. Weir rarely editorializes; speculation, sensationalism, and bias is kept to a minimum. Nor does Weir focus much on the culture of the times, which might disappoint those hoping for more of a flavor of the times. This is serious, somewhat dry (yet readable and well-paced) scholarship, and whether or not you enjoy this book will likely depend on your style preferences.

I found this a very enjoyable read, I really took a liking to the female main character who made me realise that appearances can definitely be deceiving. There's a lot more to her than a bright and bubbly personality, allthough I also like the bubbly part of her personality :-) .
