I was loving this book.....and then towards the end, not sure I was liking where it was heading. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that might choose to read it. I only hope that I can get "into" the story again in the next book. I do like the author's sense of humor though.

I like dystopian novels and this was a good one. It immediately gripped my attention. I kept telling myself I would just read one more chapter. It has some pretty graphic violence and mature concepts that make it inappropriate for younger readers. I am looking forward to books #2 and #3.

This was a good read- I enjoyed it muhc more than Omnivore's Dilemma although to some extent it covers similar territory. It is more entertaining because Buford works in various kitchens, such as Mario Batali's (where he spends too many pages I think), and so we see the insides of restaurant kitchens. But then he goes to Tuscany and it becomes a bit of a fairy tale.

Ok, a lot of the writing was pretty cliched but I did like the overall idea of people coming together to elevate to some higher spiritual plane and I do think that the church and/or the gov't would definitely try to supress that kind of activity. I wonder how the movie turned out.

I think it made me want to go to another country and immerse myself there. Sigh. The book was good. The story gripping--I stayed up to some ridiculous hour of the morning to find out what happens. And it was worth it! Lovely story of what happens when a young man lets himself really love and act accordingly. During the first half of the book I was surprised that the language and all was as clean as it was. To be honest, it didn't fit with the image of Conor (who made himself sound a lot like the people I live around--nice, but very different values). This resolved itself at the end when he explained his quiet conversion to Christianity. I really liked this little section of the book-it was not in the slightest bit preachy, but instead it showed a little of what happens when we are converted. Over all a good memoir, a great look into current events in Nepal (nothing like a story to make new headlines come to life!), and a wonderful story of love and friendships.

This book and it's story stays with you. I just loved it. It seemed so intense and intimate in her near memoir type book. I like her fervour for life and the great signifigance in individuality.
