This was very exciting. I loved the twists in plot. They really caught me off guard and made reading this book so much fun. this is my realistic contemporary fiction

Really enjoyed this book, everything about it just drew me in, the writing style and the imagery. I have never heard the story of the 12 princesses. Jessica Day George has an easy writing style and I was able to breeze through the book easily. I will be reading other books by her.

This book uses the SF concept of nanites (nano-machines) and plays it out to the hilt in the setting of Ventus, a world where every element of the ecology is imbued with some measure of intelligence and communication ability, from the tiniest insects and waves of water that know their own name and place in the world, to the giant mobile machines that control the weather and sustain the ongoing terraforming of Ventus. The genius twist is that, for reasons you discover as the book unfolds, the human inhabitants of Ventus have mostly lost the ability to communicate with these nanites, and thus their society is based on a medieval level of technology and they display a pre-scientific worldview of Ventus as a world full of spirits, the gods of which they call the Winds. With such a fascinating setting, it is a wonder that the character stories still manage to steal the show, especially the characters of General Armiger and Queen Galas. However, the nominal protagonist, Jordan Mason, is the same old boring farmboy destined for great things that you see in almost all epic fantasy. And at the end of the book, I had more questions about the character of Calandria May than when I started.

The Road Less Traveled and Beyond, by M. Scott Peck - about 1 and a half stars; author shamelessly quotes from his own previous titles; the wisdom in it is mostly sound, but it really is a bit of a re-hash

I'm having a hard time organizing my thoughts on this book. I found it incredibly readable; I loved the way the story was told through a changing POV (many times of seemingly minor characters) and changing date. I actually read it really quickly. But, now that I'm finished, I have no idea what happened, no idea what it was about, other than the passage of time and how it changes you. I can't say there were any characters with whom I connected, or even liked. I guess what I'm trying to say is that finishing this book left me incredibly unsatisfied.

Am I becoming old? Definitely. Am I losing my sense of humour? Most likely. Am I disappointed that Eoin Colfer can't carry a candle to the late great departed Mr Adams? Yes. The bugger. I was conned. I was ripped off. I dreamed of dolphins and instead I got sardines. And Arthur wasn't even wearing his dressing gown. And that reminds me, wasn't Zaphod a brunette? And another thing...a seventh book would be killing the overkill, Mr Colfer. Please don't.
