An OK read, but not up to Smith's usual standards.

I read this so many times as a kid (during my Crighton phase) that my mother (who was the reading wardon) even proclaimed: "That one, again!"

Short version: Not bad for a long magazine article, not great for a book. Long version: I wouldn't call this so much a history as an expose, a nice journalistic paddle in the shallows of what the SCA is. Every so often, O'Donnell seems to hedge in the hopes of not offending SCA folk, which can be frustrating, if understandable. Further frustration sets in when you read about a particularly interesting aspect of the Society about which O'Donnell only has superficial things to say. Certainly don't expect to hear as much about fighting as about people. Perhaps the most satisfying thing is getting the back-story on Valharic, currently King of Atlantia and soon to become the Duke he dreams of being in O'Donnell's book.

Didn't finish it. Loved the first half but made the mistake of watching movie and lost enthusiasm for finishing. But very good.

A beautiful set of stories. I loved them all except "This Blessed House", which I thought was odd and random. This is exactly what you would expect from Lahiri - stories of Indians, Indian-Americans, and those who fit somewhere uncomfortably in-between. I don't get tired of her subject, though, because she does is so well. The tone of her stories is absolutely pitch-perfect and I can't wait to finally get around to Unaccustomed Earth. I would highly recommend this one to just about anyone.

"..I hereby place you under arrest for practicing as an unlicensed superhero." "Practicing"? Am I so bad at what I do that you people think I'm practicing?!" This would be a very difficult book to write a full review for. Not impossible, but definitely time-consuming and I can almost guarantee that anyone outside of the Marvel Universe still would only have a vague idea of what was going on by the time I was finished. I can't describe Carol's visit to her dying father without exploring her memory loss and Rogue's involvement. Or her visit to Gavin without detailing A.I.M. and Wanda Maximoff. Or why she spends her time attempting to arrest unregistered superheroes. Or why Norman Osborn is so important. Instead I will just say that visiting Carol Danver's life before she became a superhero was interesting, the back-and-forth with Spider-man was entertaining, and I was very pleased with the artwork. I really enjoyed the way Ms. Marvel was depicted in the first story, Scavengers. Robinson makes her look younger, more fun and sexy, different from the Ms. Marvel that I'm familiar with. But my favorite artwork was with the last story, Secret Agent Danvers. Carol looks more mature, even sexier, and more bad-ass. This is my second time reading this addition to my Ms. Marvel collection. While it's not one of my favorites, it still has an interesting storyline and is an essential read for any Ms. Marvel fan. * * * 3.5 Stars * * *

this is part II of yours for the revolution. really a let down. even though the first book was forced it was still really good. it had energy and a feeling of youth. this, is soooo forced. it is in a nut shell about anarchist ... as they travel and eventually get caught up in the "legal" system. too many pages get devoted to (what i assume is)the author's political doctrine - it reads like she's writing her views in a thinly disguised piece of fiction. more effort would have made this great. more work to tie her (the author) views into the charachters ... i really wanted to love this book.
