This is easily my favorite kids / picture book in a long time. Math, penguins, global warming, and awesome drawings! Purchase this for the kids in your life right away.

What I learned from this book? That Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are like peanut butter and chocolate...awesome separately, awesome together.

In this one, the mystery was pretty good, and Aurora and her husband are very romantic together, but the twist at the end less than stunned me.

I read the Kauffman editions. Fun to read in tandem: early Nietzsche, and middle-late Nietzsche. To sum up in a phew catchfrazes: BoT - apollo and dionysus; GoM - slave morality and will to power.

Now that I've started I remember reading this collection in high school. The stories so far are weirder than her norm -- almost Father Brown-ish.

Who knew that a whole world could be suggested by one troublesome name? When Oedipa Maas is chosen as the executor of a former lover's estate, she decides to unravel some of this late prankster's mysteries. It's not long until the word "Trystero" leads her to a variety of characters, including a former child actor, director of medieval plays, controversial physicists, and a group of people determined to be alone in life. As with Pynchon's other works, the narrative winds about, nearly losing the reader several times without reducing itself to nonsense. The adventure is in the narrative, and the text does not disappoint in providing said adventure.

I get the feeling that when de la Cruz started off this series, she didn't really know where she was taking it. These last few books have a completely different feel to them. The character development is immense: from petty high-school incidents to huge earth-shattering decisions. I mean, there were so many characters in the first book to take care of, and Lost in Time only focused on a select few. Lost in Time was written in three points of views: Schuyler's, Allegra's, and Mimi's. I don't like Schuyler, or Jack, or Allegra. So that meant having to suffer their inane, boring tales to get to Mimi's. And I do like her, a lot. She's a lot more interesting, a lot more flawed, and all in all a lot more relatable and likable. Haaaaaate. Though I will say this for Edith, it's not entirely her fault. A lovely**** woman named Carol A. Powers holds much of the responsibility for my grudge against this book. Not all, but a good amount. The book does suck on its own merits. Let me tell you something. While I have no professional training in education, I can say this with absolute certainty: the way to teach teenagers literature is not - I repeat, NOT - to force them to memorize it. This book does have a small place in my heart, though. Without it, we never would've experienced the great sled scene re-enactment in the Ho Ho. Starring, if I remember correctly, Jillian as Ethan, Brianne as Mattie, a chair on wheels as the sled, Shan as the tree, and Janet as gravity, with me filming the whole thing on the VC.
