This book is so great. It gives you a different perspective of life, like if you are a teen mother you can know that there are other people out there and that your are not alone in this world. If you have dealt with loss especially when someone young dies you can read this book. Tasha is a 14 year old girl who got pregnant while she is in High School. She was raped but no one new that. Tasha look very grown for her age but she was a kid at heart, but not to the arrogant boys out there. Tasha then finds out that she is pregnant and she has a baby girl name Imani. Then Tasha meets a new sweetheart named Clyde and then they really like each other. But then When Tasha put Imani down to rest there was a drive by shooting and the people shoot upstairs and in Imani's bedroom and Imani was killed at 2 years old. But then Clyde doesn't know that he and Tasha are having another baby. But that's for another story. But teenage mothers can feel hopeful that there is a second chance for anyone no matter the status.

loved this book when i first read it because i was the same age as the main characters. it was very easy for me to relate to and understand the things they did and why they did them. After reading all seven, i realize that it's a very good starter book for the series, but still not my favorite of all seven.

I read this book when it first came out. Though I think it's a fun book with an interesting take on things....I hardly think it's worth all the uproar and hooha. It's not great literature.

I kept turning the pages, despite the fact that for most of the book Bryson annoyed me. Bryson is a cantankerous, dramatic elitist, but by the end, when he and Katz finished their trip, I was sad to see them go. They had endeared themselves to me. I learned a lot about Appalachia - the trail and its history - and I learned that while hiking the trails sounds good in theory, I never want to do it (unless there's a way to bring Sleep Number beds on the trail).

I have never been into vintage clothing; like Phoebe's mother I don't want to wear clothing someone else has worn. But I remember playing dress-up in the wonderful old dresses my Mom had saved from her college party days. I love estate sales and auctions, as well as old things, so the book struck a chord with me. A Vintage Affair is a good, quick read which I recommended to a friend who just finished a degree in Women's Studies, specifically the history of women's clothing. The underlying relationship between Mrs. Bell and Phoebe is heart-warming and delightful but is really overshadowed by the triteness of her interactions with the other characters and her obsession with the designer's clothing. I think the author tried to equate Phoebe's depth of understanding about vintage clothes with her understanding of her relationships and this just isn't quite communicated. I'd read another of this author's books and enjoyed the light read.

I hate it when books disappoint me. I thought the premise was intriguing: in the middle of the Great Depression, this man's parents die just before he's supposed to finish college, they leave him with nothing, and he runs off to join the circus. The story itself is interesting, but apparently joining the circus was more about sex than joining the circus. And it's just too bad the author thought she had to include all the details, because I think I would have loved the book if they hadn't been there.
