I had a hard time with this thrid and final book of the series. It mostly felt like a slog, I didn't find the new characters and plot developments nearly as engaging as the first 2 books, which I really enjoyed. But at the same time I felt I couldn't give up so just kept at it.

This is one of the books I read back in high school. I just did not enjoy it. Maybe partly because I was reading it for school. But I just remember it being very dry. I might feel differently if I read it now, but just the thought of starting it sort of makes me cring.

This book is an engrossing political look at the 1905 Russian Revolution (which was ultimately unsuccessful in overthrowing the tsar). The first few chapters (I think first 5) are a difficult read, but are very important economic and historical background. It has been said that in revolutionary times, hours can be more important than years previous and this book describes that flow of the working class. From the forming of the St. Petersburg soviet to its functioning (it was more of an administrative body, coordinating the actions that the workers throughout the city were taking). Then also the reasons for the lack of success. A must read!

I loved this book! I started reading it last year and then misplaced it and just finished. My favorite parts were set in Alpino. I was inspired to read how when the early Christians were persecuted they were so brave. Not only was it a great story, it was well written. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

I approached this book with limited expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Well-written nonfiction. The one aspect the book could use is an epilogue; it was written over thirty years ago and a cursory internet search reveals a number of interesting developments in that time.
