Awesome, as usual. Bummer about Don but I figured he wasn't going to go too far. Keep 'em coming, I can't get enough of Cat and Bones.

I really liked the ending! I raced to finish it, and was not disappointed.

Cute teen book from the authors of the Go Fug Yourself blog (noted a handful of "Well played" references here and there). Clearly they have a unique view into the Hollywood scene. This is a fun, quick read if you're looking for something light - would be an ideal vacay, beach read. Felt similar to Mean Girls but stands as its own with the story of the two half-sisters... I could actually see this being made into a TV movie for ABC Family or something. I did feel the ending was a little off, I'd be curious to see what other readers thought. Definitely some good resolutions but I'm not sure if it was a completely satisfying ending for me... not sure if that was intentional, maybe they're planning a sequel?

This was really good. It was hard to stop reading. Bosch did many smart things that surprised me, things I did not expect. REVIEWER’S OPINION: Early in the book Harry said “I want (pause) I’m going to find her killer.” (My thoughts were yes you will. Not many people could say that but you can. You are so smart at solving crimes – I’ve seen him in action in three previous books.) It was hard for me to imagine how anyone could solve something so old. It was fascinating to watch what Bosch did to uncover clues and talk to people and figure out what happened 33 years ago. I was impressed with how Harry got people to talk to him and to do things – like several different bureaucrats he needed information from. The dialogue was very good. Even the simple scene of Bosch renting a room at a hotel was interesting. I chuckled at the conversation with the landlord. One of the reasons these books are so good is that Bosch does the unexpected. In one scene I thought he would try to get someone’s fingerprints, but no. He asked pointed questions, left, and then had a note delivered. From afar he watched the reaction to the note and said “spooked you didn’t I you f***.” Something else unexpected was why Bosch was using a fake name and what happened as a result. Two vicious men tortured and killed someone. Then they kidnapped Bosch. They hit him with a tire iron giving him a concussion and were going to kill him. My favorite and most memorable scene was what Bosch did to survive and get away (alone with no help). This is not a spoiler because we know he survives to be in the sequels. STORY BRIEF: The book begins with Bosch hitting his superior and put on involuntary stress leave. During this forced time off he decides to look into his mother’s death from 33 years ago. She was murdered. It was never solved. There was some kind of coverup and payoffs connected to powerful political people. NARRATOR: The narrator Dick Hill was very good. DATA: Unabridged audiobook length: 12 hrs and 54 mins. Narrator: Dick Hill. Swearing language: strong but not frequently used. Sexual language: none. Number of sex scenes: two, told not shown. Setting: 1994 mostly Los Angeles, California, plus Florida and Nevada. Book Copyright: 1995. Genre: crime mystery. Ending: I felt regret for murdered victims but was pleased with eventual justice. The good guys win. OTHER BOOKS - FOUR SERIES (Bosch, McEvoy, McCaleb, Haller): I recommend reading the Harry Bosch books in order, but it would be ok to try “The Last Coyote” or “Lost Light” first, just to see if you like the style. Then go back and read the rest in order. Following is my recommended reading order. I’ve included four series within this list because there is a date flow and the characters interact. All of these books could be read as stand-alones, but reading them in order provides richer character development. 3 stars. The Black Echo (Bosch #1) 3 ½ stars. The Black Ice (Bosch #2) 4 stars. The Concrete Blonde (Bosch #3) 5 stars. The Last Coyote (Bosch #4) 4 stars. Trunk Music (Bosch #5) 4 stars. Angels Flight (Bosch #6) 4 ½ stars. Blood Work (McCaleb #1) Bosch is not in this. 3 ½ stars. A Darkness More Than Night (McCaleb #2) (Bosch #7) McCaleb is the primary investigator, but he interacts with Bosch. 3 ½ stars. City Of Bones (Bosch #8) 5 stars. Lost Light (Bosch #9) 5 stars. The Poet (McEvoy #1) Bosch is not in this. Read this any time before “The Narrows.” 4 stars. The Narrows (sequel to The Poet) (Bosch #10) Bosch is the main investigator. 3 stars. The Closers (Bosch #11) 3 ½ stars. Echo Park (Bosch #12) 4 stars. The Overlook (short, half-length) (Bosch #13) 4 ½ stars. The Lincoln Lawyer (Haller #1) Bosch is not in this. 4 stars. The Brass Verdict (Haller #2) (Bosch #14) Bosch has a small part in this. 4 ½ stars. Nine Dragons. (Bosch #15) Haller has a small part in this. 3 stars. The Reversal. (Haller #3) (Bosch #16) Mostly Haller. Bosch has a secondary role. 3 stars. The Fifth Witness (Haller #4) 5 stars. The Drop (Bosch #17) 5 stars. The Black Box (Bosch #18) 3 stars. Angle of Investigation - Bosch - 3 short stories published 2011 4 stars. Suicide Run - Bosch - 3 short stories published 2011

While I didn't dislike this book. I found it predictable and there were some steamy parts that I had to by pass.

MPH does her usual great job writing the newest installment of her time-traveling adventure for kids. I wasn't like, shocked with the way anything played out, but it was nicely done anyway. I did kind of feel like they were stuck on that ship in the freezing cold in 1611 for a bit too long for my taste, but other than that, good job. I think I'm getting to the point with MPH where I, as an adult, don't love her and her books the way I know (and can tell) kids love her and her books. I will probably read the next installment of this book series so I can finally find out what child in history Jonah is.

This book opened my eyes more than I thought possible. Even after reading this book I can not begin to comprehend the number of people that are effected by AIDS. I do not think that people in the United States even begin to understand what life is like for the majority of the world. I have been so confused about AIDS and have faced it with a lot of fear. This has opened my heart and understanding and hopefully will move me more into action. THIS IS A MUST READ! It is a little Long
Wanted to love it, because Pollan's my hero. Didn't, though. There's some fine alchemy that occurs when you cross a mild-mannered-yet brilliant non-fiction writer with highly volatile subject matter, a la The Omnivore's Dilemma. It's just the right balance. This book, however, is about Pollan and his garden, and the history of gardens. Not quite as volatile, though the writing is still good; the result is a bland but well-written exploration of green thumbery. *Yawn.*
