This is the academic version of "Super Size Me" and the modern version of "the Jungle" (sinclair). Pretty good nonfiction read, the research done is quite thorough.

Whoever told me that this series was better than Harry Potter LIED!!! It was okay, but I quickly got tired of the whiny 12-y/o. Was Harry every that bad? I don't think he was. I'll give the second one a try, but if it doesn't improve, I'm flouncing the series.

Of all her works I like this one most. If I was asked if Ayn Rand had written a classic, this is the one I would cite. She said it was as near to autobiography as anything she had written, and that comes across. The book feels like the truth, rather than the invented (contrived?) scenarios in her other books, and the sometimes pedantic arguments in some of her essays.

I thought that the book was good. I did take along time reading it because of a part that made me think. I recommend it to anyone but there has been confusion about weather or not it was a true story. It isn't a true story pursey but it is a true story about a persons spiritual awakening.

Another great book from Ward. No, not great--fantastic, and INSANELY absorbing. I read all 600 or so pages in 1 sitting, with occasional snack breaks. The BDB is the best series I've come across in a very long time. This book was as good as its three predecessors, with some big surprises. Marissa, the heroine, was one of those pleasant surprises. I wasn't very interested in her and didn't expect much from her as a lead character, but she was way more interesting than the previous books let on. She grew a lot and watching that was fun, but don't get me wrong--I thought she was great from the very start of the book. Ward really knows how to develop her characters. I was disappointed by the total lack of Phury (not much Mary or John in the book either), but at least we get some more interesting scenes with Rehvenge, my personal favorite. BTW--Ward has her own online forum and she posts a lot there. I recommend it to anyone who is even a moderate fan of hers.

I can't say I liked this book. Although it was well written, and keeps the reader engaged, as a mother of two boys I was deeply disturbed by what I read. I continued reading hoping I would find a bit of solace in the ending, however that did not happen. I realize some might consider this book a good read considering the impact it can make on the reader, but I prefer good books to not take me down a disturbing path of thought, an unnecessary one at that.
