I really enjoyed this book. It was rather different to all the others. After reading the reviews, I was wondering what on earth was going on in the book. I really liked the fact the book was edgier and touched on a taboo subject. I think because I listened to all these, rather than reading them, and this one was narrated by someone different, it actually felt like the book was by a different author. Snippets of Anna's personality there were evident enough for me to know it was in fact the same main character. Even though this book wasn't set in a National Park, which was a highlight for me in the other books, I loved it. I enjoyed the different setting of New Orleans. I've never been there, but have always been fascinated by the place. Reading about the seamier and seedier side of the town has done nothing to wane my curiosity. At times I found the character changes between Claire and Jordan, a little hard to grasp, but just as I'd almost had enough of the rudeness of Jordan, sensible Claire came back!! I love reading murder mystrey novels, rather than 'fluff' and found this book definitely checked all the boxes for me. Can't wait to read the next instalment.

Nicholas sees ghosts after an accident. His sister is into magic. The woods near his childhood home hide dark and dangerous secrets and something or someone has been pursuing him all of his life. I really enjoyed this truly frightening book set in Australia. I'm a little sorry that spiders continue to get such a bum wrap as evil companions but it was an intriguing take on the Green Man and on what ghosts do all day. The cover was especially effective and all I can say is, don't leave this on your nightstand if the book gives you the creeps! I recommend this for Stephen King fans especially.

I absolutely fell in love with this book. The love story is heart warming and the constant battle Vivian has to deal with on a daily basis is one only a woman like her can defeat. This was a very well written book and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a different kind of love story.

So I'm a disaster/PA freak. Which doesn't stop books like these from being depressing at all. Some time, right about now, the Yellowstone caldera explodes. This book is 11 short stories/vignettes from the initial onset of the ash to some time (not too long) afterwards. The stories are presented in something of chronological order, each going further away from the explosion point. None of them really connect, and to be honest, none of them are very compelling. You have anything from people facing the onslaught of death at a dinner party, to people trying to survive the beginning of the ash in their homes (protecting loved ones), to people who are wandering and refugees, trying to eke out a living or just survive in the post-volcanic world. The only story I truly enjoyed was "A Harmless American," where the tables are turned and the Mexicans are trying to keep us out of Mexico (as the US was particularly ruined). It's not bad. I have no complaints about the writing or anything, I just couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters or feel anything about the struggles that are supposedly taking place. I just think it's forgettable.
