I guess I must be over reading a book like this. I was prepared to love it but just couldn't get into it. I found the back story very boring so I tried to focus on the present story. That didn't work for me either. I skipped around and still couldn't do it.

** spoiler alert ** Another highly entertaining piece by the Bard of Avon, although this more in eager supsense than in comedic farce. Duke Vincentio is as severe in mercy as Angelo in punishment, yet characters are more pained by the former's judgments than the latter's, as they are left to live with the consequences of their actions. Exceptional display, too, of how one's pharisaism can bring about one's own temptations and sinful deeds.

I love the Earth's Children series, but honestly, the last two have not been as good as the first 4. This one was my least favorite of them all. There is so much repetition of past and current events and endless descriptions of every little detail of the surroundings, however insignificant it was. It started to drive me nuts. So much of the book is focused on every little thing involved in her training to become Zelandoni. Also, Jondalar ends up acting like a complete idiot again. It just makes me mad. I won't go more into it than that, but he just pisses me off. Although this book drove me crazy through parts, it was nice to finish the series off.
