This book was wonderful. I enjoyed reading it and can't wait to read more of Jeremy Jackson's books.

This book was recommended to Eric and I when we were in pre-marital counciling. It has a good bit of advice and information on sex, which was helpful for both of us. It gave some general information on what to expect when you first have sex and things like that as well as information on sex within marraige and how that works, advice, tips and so on. Pros-- gave us some good "what to expect" info for our wedding night, had some fun creative ideas to use in the bedroom, Eric related well to the information pertaining to men. Cons-- This book is written by an old guy. his wife is clearly an extremely concervative woman (he says at one point in the book that his wife showered in clothing on their honeymoon because she was embarrassed to show her body--and her husband wasn't even in the shower with her!), who I honestly could not relate to on very many levels, especially sexually. Because of this much of the author's advice for women is "suck it up and let your man hump you a couple times a week". The way he spoke to women is a bit offensive because of his tendency to assume we have the sex drive of a stump.

Prut, maar vast erg vernieuwend voor die tijd.

An all american everyman is dragged into a war waged across time between two ideologically opposed forces that are behind most of the great wars and confrontations in earth's history. Anderson uses many different wrting styles and I wasn't too keen on the one employed here that seemed to work against me engaging with the story. It did end quite satisfactorally though but I think it could have been better.

Another reviewer of this book states that "Jack Vance is the best writer that you've never heard of", and I thought more than once that such was the case here for me. This was a simple, swiftly moving, sword and sorcery tale, told with wonderful imagination, a dry wit, and lovely prose. It also has plot shifts and an interleaving of story lines which differentiate great from good. What magic the story describes is interwoven with a very light touch; a thing of mischief and wonder as opposed to destruction and demon curses. In one instance, a young girl plots to steal the hat from the head of a faerie king so that he must grant her a wish. At times the novel felt like a charming mash-up of A Game of Thrones and The Last Unicorn. Within Martin we recognize scheming amongst feudal Kings, an aching desire for the reunion of child and parent, and an author not squeamish about putting a beloved character to the rack if the story calls for such. From Beagle we recall the lyrical and effortless prose, archetypes from traditional Western fairy tales, and a sense that over time, if not in each given instance, good will win out over evil.

Well written, but boring. The moments of reflection and beauty were too far apart with little to hold my attention in between. I'm glad it's over.

Four Novellas again, in King's pseudonym (supposedly because he wanted to shake the image that he delivered new books every two weeks). Rage is about a kid holding his class hostage with a gun. Roadwork is excellent, but I can hardly remember what happens The Long Walk - best of all, about this contest where a group of young men must walk 4 miles per hour in an endurance race. Anyone who lags under that pace is killed. The last one alive wins Paradise - anything he wants for the rest of his life. The Running Man - you might remember the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, this story's a little different, but still good.

I attended Concordia Academy in Portland Oregon, at that time a Lutheran boarding highschool. A roommate from Idaho said he could remember begging for berries along the barbed wire fence of an internment camp there. He would have been born in 1935 or 1936 and have been seven at the time of the internment. I, of course, said, "Internment, what internment?" In my senior year, we played Hood River Highscool in football. I believe it was the only game we won that year. I would like to go back over their roster to see if any Japanese Americans played in that game. Hood River has often been the stop off point on trips to see my brother in southwest Washington and on business trips to Pendleton Oregon. One of my favorite seminary classmates also lived there. At one time I was going to write an article on the internment and researched Oregon newspapers so I've been aware for some time that Hood River was a hotbed of anti Japanese feeling in Oregon, and as it turns out, in the entire country. While reading a hard copy I discovered this book is available as a free down load so I am going to finish it that way. The reader knows how to pronounce the names correctly.
