This is a very funny account of the Spellman family of Private Investigators, told from the point of view of 28 yr old Isabel. Also has a mystery in it. I think it's the first of a series the author has planned.

Another book that has been on my shelf so long, the sticker on it reads "Now a major motion picture!" Yeah, the movie came out in 1990 and it was a huge factor in this read. The movie is a scene for scene, damn near line for line transposition of this book. So, it felt like I was reading the screenplay or one of those old novelizations I used to read as a kid. The book has a subplot involving a character that the movie wisely drops plus it doesn't show you Moira (Myra in the movie) and Cole's background. So, if you've seen the movie, reading this book is arguably a waste of time. If you haven't seen it, these are vividly drawn characters that are worth a look. The book was written in 1963 but only in a few specific places does it feel dated. I am curious to read more of Thompson's books to see if I'll have a more pure response to any of them. I'm glad I checked this book out even though there wasn't much in the way of surprises. But by that standard, a lot of books just aren't worth the trouble.

We can't see their figure. We can only see them by if they appeared. However, if their shadow being discovered, s/he would need to take the consequence. These people are shadow children. Luk is one of those kids described in by Margaret Peterson Haddix. He can't leave the house but he can use his mind to picture himself outside. Luk is a third child in family. Because of the government only allow two children in the family, Luk can only use stares his two brothers having fun outside and go to school. He sleeps at attic and there he finds an interesting light from his neighbor. This light leads Luk meet a girl named Jen, who is also a shadow kid and his father is a police. She is much braver than Luk. Since they become friend, Jen and Luk plan to do something risk and bring happiness for all shadow kids. For unexpected expectation, Jen can't hold on this risk to long and Luk has to continue for her. Under Jen's father help, Luk has to leave his family to accomplish his goal. Would he be able to succeed? This is written in way that the author act as the protagonist, Luk. The author is really into the character and marks down all feelings that act as third child can get. In addition, the theme of the book is bravery and hero. The author is very successful surrounding the theme to write out this book and it makes interesting to the readers. I will recommend this book to teenager. It reminds the teenagers that that are still children who might have same condition as Luk in same areas and they should enjoy the life of what they have.

this book took awhile to get going, but i'm finally at the interesting part. There's a lot of history and factual data, but the underlying story is pretty neat. took a long time to finish it though.

Yeah, I read another. Want to make something of it? :) Anyway, this one is scary(I bit off all my fingernails finishing it), all the environmentalists are crazy and want to kill all humans, and the plot is a little repetitive/predictable. But if you're going to be stuck on a plane and you're not afraid of ebola, it's alright I suppose. But you know, most airports do have bookstores!

A good book, but compared to others in the series, a slow starter and too long to reach the end. The final battle was a blockbuster, but could have come sooner. Dolores Umbridge was a terrifically nasty character - blantantly devious and cloying. I reviled her when she was there, and when she left, I wanted her to come back.

This is Stephen King's scary universe at its near-best. The combination of real-world and supernatural-world scariness which he does better, I would argue, than any other modern writer comes at the reader full force. I don't know why only King is really able to convince me of the believability of events which--taken out of his books--I would deride as ridiculous, but therein lies what I consider his considerable talent. I have stopped reading most of his contemporary horror writers, because they do not carry me along; they don't set me up so that I can accept the things that happen; they focus so much on violence and gore that they don't bring the STORY, which is what is most important. I have one quibble, and it is just a quibble--but I won't put it in this review for fear it would be a plot spoiler for other King fans who haven't yet read this novel. Oh, and I think it's better, overall, than LISEY'S STORY.
