I never knew there was a sequel to Guns of Navarone until i saw the teasers for the movie w/Harrison Ford. Went to the Library immediately to read the book before i saw the movie. It Was a good movie and i thoroughly like it, as a movie, But as usual it paled in comparison to the book. xoDaleB.xo

Overall, a great book. Individually, some of the stories are kind of funny and others are really funny, but they all appeal to that same McSweeney's brand of humor -- sort of dry, sort of silly, sort of simple, but very humorous. The lists were my favorite part.

Walter Mosley's new P.I. series debuts with this title set in New York City in 2008. Leonid McGill is an ex-boxer with a family who has decided to turn over a new leaf. He's done with his rough-and-tumble past. Great minor characters, including "Hush" who reminds me of Mouse. Enjoyed the dream sequences and back story woven into the narrative. This series will get better in the subsequent titles.

This story has fascinated me since I first read the essay in _Beetle of Aphrodite_. Outstanding!

Beautiful, sprawling, epic - the apex of romanticism. Dealing with lofty themes and ambitions that remain relevant today, this is quite possibly the best book that i have ever read.

I enjoyed this book and the author's writing style but I definitely did not end up like Frank Lloyd Wright at all.

From Publishers Weekly In this somewhat desultory but affecting autobiography, Yep ( Dragonwings ) describes himself as a collection of disparate puzzle pieces: a Chinese-American raised in a black neighborhood, a child too American to fit into Chinatown and too Chinese to fit in anywhere else. Writing, he explains, has conferred on him the role of puzzle-solver, allowing him imaginatively to join and even reinvent the pieces. Among the most notable figures in Yep's unassuming narrative are his hardworking, indomitable parents, owners of a grocery that requires their unflagging attention, and his Chinatown grandmother, the model for several characters in his novels. Occasional flashes of humor or whimsy--an eccentric chemistry teacher's antics, the revelation that Yep wrote his Mark Twain books to the music of the B-52s--enliven the mix. Ages 11-13.
