Excellent story about the dangers of total conformity, and even holding onto memories -- they all seem so precious after reading this book.

I FINALLY finished this. It took forever because I kept putting it down and then trying to pick up back up again. Halfway through I was thoroughly confused. I finally figured out why I was so confused. The ebook version I was reading (admittedly from a questionable source) skipped the whole middle part of the novel. The whole guts of it. It went from soon after Molly hooks up with Case in Chiba City to the two of them landing in Freeside. I finally figured out what was wrong and went back and started it almost completely over and then read the middle part...so it went like this: read the beginning, then the first half of the last third of the book, then the middle and then second half of the last third of the book. This is not a sequence conducive to good reading unfortunately. Besides that though, I had a hard time connecting or feeling any compassion for the main character Case, a skinny, young, addicted, down on his luck hacker. The character of Molly Millions, the streetwise, razors under the fingernails, kick ass gun for hire, was another matter though and she made the story for me. And the other characters, Armitage/Corto, Maelcum, Dixie, the Finn, 3LadyJane, Riviera and even Wintermute were well fleshed out and human with their strengths and flaws. Even though I messed up the reading of it royally, I still enjoyed the whole experience. When I think about the book in its entirety and move the pieces around in my brain, I realize how brilliant Gibson's book is and I see why this has become the seminal work of the cyberpunk genre. One day, after it has been completely digested, I will have to read this book over again...correctly. I better be prepared though to have myself completely blown away.

I really enjoy this kind of historical novel, especially from this era. There were a few too many battles for me, but other than that I truly enjoyed it.

This was a pretty good book. Not a page turner, but cute enough!

I held the door for the man at college, but I never read his classic novel until I was a teacher. I remember finishing this book and just sobbing on my bed for 15 minutes; if you avoided or hated this in highschool, give it another chance, because it deserves every bit of its reputation. 2-1-8 As of today, I'm teaching it to my Sophomore classes. I think I found it even more tragic the second time through, with Achebe's simple, detached style juxtaposed against the collapse of one mans life and the end of an entire civilization. My students pulled a lot regarding themes , especially towards the end.

Post-read: Well... not my favorite thing ever, but it was worth the read, as it's such a short book and a classic. I thought it was really interesting that the bulk of the story is told from Dr. Jekyll's lawyer-friend's point of view. It's a mystery, really. The friend knows there is a connection between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but he can't figure out why an upstanding citizen like Jekyll would have ANYTHING to do with the nefarious Hyde. So, over the course of the story, he's trying to figure out what's going on between the two of them.... It's interesting! I'm really surprised that this book (even the picture-book version) would be in the juvenile fiction section of the library! First of all, I doubt a j-fic reader would understand half of the words in the story (it's 1895 language, after all). Second, it has a QUITE violent scene, where Mr. Hyde beats a guy to death with his cane. Geez! I was like, "Whoa! Holy cow!" But it was quite an interesting tale about the duality of a person's character... not that I necessarily agree with late 19th century psychology or anything.... but it was interesting... Pre-read: This may "technically" be a children's book, but it contains the full text, just with pictures and insights into the Victorian Era. I'm kind of excited about that. Books with pictures are fabulous, aren't they?

My favorite Steinbeck.
I couldn't put it down. It was a great end of summer quick read!
Seeing Things is an entertaining story. The author's voice is strong and I loved how it sounded very "senior citizen." I adored the main character, Birdie, and enjoyed getting to know her through her inner dialog. This entire story was incredibly creative and unique. I learned a few things about people with AMD as well. What I enjoyed most about this novel were the relationship dynamics and how realistic the author made the tension in Fletcher's family. Also, the whole issue about trying to help Birdie be safe was interesting because it's so common and most families will struggle with this issue regarding aging parents. The only thing that threw me off a bit was how things transitioned at the end. It seemed like more of a leap than a gentle progression toward resolution. It was too sudden. But I enjoyed the romantic tension between the old folks, so that more than made up for it. That theme was very well done. Overall, this was a good story and I'm glad I took the time to read it.
