I loved the movie "Notebook" so I thought I would like to read this book by the author of that book. Nope. I can't stand his writing style. I feel like I am reading someones diary but the details he shares seem boring and not relevant sometimes. I do enjoy one aspect of the book...the relationship between the main character and his father in law. It reminds me of my husband and my dad.

I don't really know what I was expecting from this book - answers from the previous ending would've been nice. I've read the entire Jack Reacher series and though they are all good in their own right, I think the series has lost its lustre for me. Jack Reacher isn't mortal. He rarely gets things wrong. To follow up 61 hours where we finally saw Reacher dealing with mistakes in judgement and acting on them with this just felt out of place. A good read, just not a great one.

I read this book after reading Marek Halter's 'Sarah', and the stories are similar, takign place in about the same time period. The writing style is simple and easy to follow, the female characters are fleshed out with personalities, but the men seem to be a tad one dimensional. I suppose that isn't important though, as this is a story about women, as the title suggests.

This really should be 3 1/2 stars. I loved a lot of the two novellas and other parts, not so much. The first novella was hard to get into, but when i did I enjoyed it. The second one started well and then seemed to be finished in a hurry. This book would have had a higher rating, but for the bits where suddenly kaya is left alone, pregnant, months pass and it gets a bit choppy

Alright. At some point, someone read this book. Maybe a few years later, they decided to make a movie based on the vague recollections they had of if. It takes place in the late 1800s. The main characters' names are Borden and Angier, and they are conflicting illusionists. But that's where the similarities end. That doesn't, however, mean that the Prestige isn't a good book, it's just different. There's more of a gray scale than in the movie; both characters are less good and less bed. We deal with a present-time frame story, which seemed, in retrospect, both a little unnecessary and unresolved. The book is worth reading, although not brilliant, and a fast read; written mostly in diary form, it took me less than a day to finish.
