This story primarily focused on Rakesh Ahuja, a politician in India, and his wife and one of his many children. I found the marital relationship fascinating. I didn't quite understand his work political issues, but it could have been that I was so intrigued by the marital aspect that I was just phoning it in when he was dealing with the work issues. The son Arjun was interesting but really didn't get a lot of airtime except for his crush on the girl on the bus that he tries to do a rock concert for.

** spoiler alert ** Just finished this book and really enjoyed it. Okay, I just finished Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) And I have to say, I love Cyn. She is hot sh$t. And I like how different the two are. Great back story and the best part is when he turns on the staircase and asks her if she dreams. Ha, Ha, Ha.... Everyone is a bit in awe and fear of him, they tip-toe around him and Cyn just comes out and calls him an a$$hole. He might be all powerful and possess all these great super-human skills but she treats him like a normal man. This was a pretty good book. I enjoyed it...I thought that this book was written for people who have read other books about vampires. He licks her wounds for instance...why? Well, we know...So many of the books I read with vampires in them really make a point of explaining to the reader why the vampire is doing something which is attributable to their vampire skills...this does not. It assumes you already know...which is no problem, I do know. But an interesting observation. The story of Cyn and Raphael is not over with this book, or any of the secondary characters for that matter....The book is about a Powerful vampire lord who hires a PI (Cynthia) to help him solve the mystery of a missing person-one of his people-that kidnapping involved humans and Raphael feels this woman would understand the motivations of humans better than they. Cyn and Raphael get tangled up together as the story goes on. Like so many PNR heroes...he is not the best communicator. They solve the case and each goes his own way. The part where they live happily ever after doesn't happen...yet. Gotta keep reading for that. The ending was a little frustrating but everyone tells me to keep reading. It get's better and better. So, I will read.

If you enjoy works like Diary of a Wimpy Kid or that of John Green, I highly recommend this book. It made me laugh and cry, often at the same time. It's an amazing story of discovering strength within yourself.

I didn't really get the point of this book nor, did I "love" it until the last 3 chapters. It's an interesting read up to that point, but then it's great. I wish I had someone to discuss it with because it raises so many questions.

Her world also includes a potpourri of other individuals, such as her neighbor Jeff, her friend Taron, and an assortment of characters she meets in her investigations. "Alison Wonderland" seems to be a satirical quest as one woman ventures into the world as a single person. Dialogue between the characters Alison and Taron is fun and lively. Sometimes I couldn't find much point to the story, but I did enjoy the author's conversational tone and unique humor. Three stars.

I get the feeling I'm going to end up embarking on the great Dresden Files reread. It's been years since I picked this one up (and oddly it was years after that before I picked up the second). Though the Dresden Files is my favorite series, the first book is a bit lackluster compared to some of the others. Dresden's not quite all there and his supporting casts isn't nearly as strong as it becomes later. But still, this was Butcher's debut novel. It's got whip-sharp dialogue, a fast moving plot, not to mention a lot of monsters. And if I'm remembering correctly, it only gets better from here.
