Review also posted on my blog, Books and a Cup of Tea. I absolutely love novels based on mythology and I feel The Goddess Test is a great addition to the excellent genre. Kate is a wonderful girl. She's smart and caring and she would do anything for her mother. I fell in love with her from the start. She was incredibly mature for her age, having grown this way by her mother's illness. She grew even more throughout the story, though, and I loved reading about her growth and how she dealt with her new fate. I also fell in love with Henry. At first I didn't know what to make of him, because to be honest, if a guy asked me to live with him six months out of every year, I'd tell him to check himself into a mental institution. If on top of that he was saying he was Hades, God of the Underworld? I'd have personally taken him to the aforementioned mental institution. However, this is young adult paranormal romance, so of course he's who he says he is and of course that makes him sexy. Tell me you wouldn't love being a Goddess and I'll rest my case! Despite being a God and sometimes being very distant and cold, however, he is really sexy. At times it was hard to believe how much he cared for Kate, but then he would do something that would prove it. I loved how their relationship also wasn't so instantaneous and was quite uniquely one-sided at first. I would have liked a bit less romance, though, in the middle of the book, as that was basically all the middle was made up of. Now the writing was amazing, I love how Aimee Carter writes. She puts believability into the dialogue and emotions. She puts details into the scenes and the environments. She has a simple, but very effective way of writing that is sure to capture anyone's attention. The plot was straight-forward most of the time. There were a few twists and turns that I didn't expect, but most of the time I guessed whatever was coming. This wasn't a bad thing, however, as long as I'm still entertained and I was most of the time. Now, my only gripe with the story line was there wasn't enough to the tests. Henry told her she might recognize when a test was happening, but halfway through, she was told she had already faced a couple tests, which was news to me. At first, this greatly bothered me, because it's called The Goddess Test for a reason. However, the tests are explained later on and I greatly appreciated that Carter included an explanation of each. Overall, I really liked The Goddess Test. I thought it was a perfect addition to the mythology genre and it satisfied my mythology sweet-tooth greatly. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of mythology and paranormal romance.

An elegant, pre-adolescent Bildungsroman of sorts, a sort of urban-poetic mural of artistic perception and familial love. While reading Call It Sleep, I had the feeling of being in the presence of the most unassuming literary genius I'd never heard much about. Though the linguistic characteristics are fairly interesting, it's the wholly authentic rendering of David's inner struggles and the portrayal of mother-son love that make the book great. Thanks, Will!

Can't thank the author anymore, for comming up with great ideas like Jurassic park. The movie did ruin some of the suspense, but still did the trick. Can't wait to read his other books.

A nice predictably easy read by Mercedes Lackey. Was able to pick it up and finish it in one day which was very nice. I've found that none of her Elemental Masters novels are very challenging, nor are the characters all that deep. However, the plots are decent and it's an easy, amusing read for a lazy Saturday.

Ginny, a seventeen-year-old, loved artsy Aunt Peg. Despite the fact that Peg passed away from brain cancer, Ginny gets a package from her, containing 13 little blue envelopes. Ginny follows the instructions on the envelopes, meeting some of her aunt's friends along the way and learning more about her mysterious aunt. She begins to discover herself through some of her aunt's destinations.

It’s tempting to give this one a three based on a terribly slow start. The four triumphed, however, and is exclusively a reflection of the last half of the book (which in my mind redeemed itself completely). Somewhere along the line the story and characters caught my attention and became thoroughly entertaining and downright un-put-down-able (yes, that is a literary term in case you were wondering). I enjoyed it very much and look forward to diving right into the sequel, which I hear is even better.

Although I found it a little bit hard to get into -- I then found that I couldn't put it down. Having read a lot of "true crime" books, this one BY FAR is the best. It reads like a novel, complete with plot and round characters, but it is real and that is something that I had to keep reminding myself of! I did feel unsettled at the end simply because I was happy that the two killers were executed, but unsure of whether a) who had done the actual killing and b) I began to like them, especially Perry. I felt bad for them. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who can handle it. It's sad and descriptive, especially when the actual murders are being described.

This book was so overrated -- I couldn't stand it and could barely finish it. It was pretty formulaic as far as subcontinental writing goes. Would never recommend.

Almost in spite of myself, I really enjoyed this book. At times, I could see the plot lines coming a mile off but something about the story compensated for that. If anything, it's a very interesting take on the idea of angels which gave it something new to offer in the genre.
