I have mixed reviews for this one: some of the essays were a bit tedious to get through, and perhaps the meaning was just lost on me; others were really incredible, and if I could be half as good a writer someday, I would be happy. The introduction, by Joyce Carol Oates, is written by someone who really knows the craft, and because I read it before reading the essays, I had more appreciation for them.

The premise is pretty unique. I mean not the whole time travel aspect, but she (the author Audrey Niffenegger) does a good job handling the concept and making it believable. Further, she does a great job of making Henry into a real and solid character. I liked him a lot. I found him funny, depressing, interesting and curious all at once. Clare, on the other hand, went hot and cold for me. She was hardly explored with other characters as soon as Henry entered the picture; almost as if clinging to him which, I suppose I could understand, but, in some ways, I could see the opposite happening as well. All in all, not a bad book, but not grand either. I would recommend it as a quick read and the plot, at the very least, will stick with me for a while.

I liked "Blink" but I think it had the same problem as Malcolm Gladwell's other book, "The Tipping Point." In both cases, it's as if the author couldn't decide if he was writing a self-help book or a description of several successes. Still, I enjoyed reading the different anecdotes and I think his overall point about "blinking" is a good one.

Robards' "Obsession" made my long flight home from vacation go more quickly, but it was nothing special. Still, I enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters.
