I really enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to everyone I know. There are a few parts of it that I am excited to discuss at book club because I really didn't get the larger meaning behind some of the characters.

Everyone should read this book. If you don't believe in all that he writes, at least it will make you think about life, and all the little aspects. I can't count the number of times I've found a quote that I've used at different parts of my life.

I wasn't sure what I was in for, but soon came to love this book. It's the story of Florentino Ariza, consumed with mad passion for a woman he has never spoken to. He courts Fermina Daza through letters and they agree to marry, but her stern father forbids her to go through with the marriage. Throughout his life he never marries. He has a lot of sex in the book, which is tastefully done and not focused on too much, but no wife. He is waiting for the love of his life. When her husband dies, he contacts her and begins to woo her again. They end up together in the end, but I am going this book four stars because I was disappointed in the ending. I didn't feel there was as much passion in the story as there was before they got together. I was expecting a little more. However, he is a talented writer and well-deserving a Nobel Prize for literature. The setting of the book is a port city in the Caribbean. I learned a lot about the history of that time and why cholera was an epidemic. I am going to pick up more of his books to read and recommend this one to anyone who likes historical romances. It is not a crazy bodice ripping one, so don't be scared! I will blog more about this book when I do my next book review entry. http://norabpeevy.blogspot.com/2011/0...

One of my favorite pieces of historical criticism. Partha Chaterjee dissects colonial Indian history into three critical moments: departure (Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay), manoeuver (Mahatma Gandhi), and arrival (Jawaharlal Nehru). He successfully complicates any simple reading of Gandhi as inspirational leader of the Indian National Movement, engaging the notions of statecraft, symbolic politics, and formative history. A must read for anyone interested in South Asian Studies.

"Yes, it's about a china rabbit," I answered my husband. And it was a very fun book. I want to read it to Katie and Morgan sometime. I loved the characters.

Loved the book, even though it's not the typical "lift your spirits" kind of reading I'm usually drawn to. Much more of a realistic portrait of the complicated dynamics of a family who loves and hates each other at the same time.

I'll eventually get around to rating each individual book, but for now this will have to do. What J.K. Rowling has done here, like many(many) other authors, is create a completely different world. Unlike many authors she has succeeded in creating a completly believable world, with characters that develope ever stronger with each book. The books start out showing the read this fantastical world, that exists within(very clever) modern day Britain. As the series continues Rowling begins to delve deeper into the characters and overall story, weaving in and out many different themes. The writing is very plain relying on much diologue, but the diologue is humorous and very real, so the books are easily read. This of course gives it the appearance of a very simple book for just children. But as the reader gets in the last three books they realize that the story is more than just fairy tale nonsense, but much more. Such an enjoyable read pease try and get past the first two books if your an adult(most get bored with them for some reason, get book on tape if it helps). The rest are so much fun to read.
