Geneen Roth is vulnerable and honest. I was surprised by how easy it was to relate to her story even though it is so different from mine. Anyone with a troubling relationship to food should give this a go.

Titled an Oral History of the Zombie War, this fictional book takes a page from Studs Turkel's playbook and gives us a story from multiple viewpoints. We get the story of the war in pieces, from Chinese doctors to mercenaries to soldiers to thinly disguised political figures. They intertwine in brilliant ways, some stories linking more directly than others. It's up to the reader to fill in the gaps and come to their own conclusions about the war itself, how it started, and what will happen to humanity in the recovery. The book reads very much like a non-fiction account of an actual war, and since I can't help but think that's what Brooks was going for, I must say he succeeds brilliantly. There are a lot of little touches in it that are brilliant--when Brooks wants us to think of a famous person, he gives just the right amount of clues, and, if someone were to read the book and not understand who he was talking about, their enjoyment of the text would not be diminished. It's as though he's written literary Easter eggs. If you like zombies--and hey, who doesn't?--you're going to love this one. (Library, 11/06)

I didn't love this one this way I loved the Kite Runner. It felt a little like Hosseni was trying to piggyback onto the success of Kite Runner, for some reason.

There's not much merit to this book, but it's just plain fun. The protagonist is shrinking at the rate of an inch a day and we're given interspersing chapters of our hero as a miniscule man and various glimpses into his life at all stages of the shrinkage. Ever wondered what it's like to battle a 7-legged black widow that's bigger than you? Or what it's like trying to pleasure your wife when you're two feet tall? Look no further. I should be on Reading Rainbow.

If Kaylee doesn't end up with Tod in the Soul Screamers series, I'd take off Rachel Vincent in my list of favorite authors..LOL (but so far, I still love her!) ...I just love Kaylee and Tod, I don't like Nash for her and rather let Sabine have him. *** This book totally took me by surprise! I was only hoping for more of Kaylee/Tod flirting but never imagined that they'll end up together in this book. And I really did my 'dorky dance' when Kaylee kissed Tod.. AHH MY GAWD!! :) Now Rachel Vincent is one of my most followed author. LOL.
