Great ending to a great series. I love the way Georgina's story came to such a satisfying end. There was a lot of my favorite character Carter in the book - always a plus. Carter's idea of a wine box is hilarious. Some of the scenes between Georgie and Carter and Georgie and Roman were extremely touching. If you're a crier have tissues ready. This has been on of my favorite series and I will definitely miss Georgina and her friends.

** spoiler alert ** This book is about a school especially made for kids with special powers. The down side of the school is that the kids are unable to be in touch with the outside world, even their families. The main character is Mikan Sakura who is a unrefined little girl who follows her best friend, Hotaru, to Alice Academy. Mikan learns that "Alice" means special ability and that Hotaru has the ability of invention. A teacher at Alice Academy believes the Mikan also has an ability, but isn't sure what it is. We later find out that she has the ability of nullification, where other kids can't use their abilities against her. There is another character names Natsume who has the ability of fire. He's considered a trouble maker and has a very powerful ability. The series is similar to Harry Potter - slightly. Some of the ideas are funny and I found myself laughing out loud a couple times (outrageous Japanese manga tends to do that). It's more like a kids manga, but I enjoyed it.

The Magician was much more enjoyable read than The Alchemyst because there is finally enough back story to make the characters more relatable and somewhat likable. The 'National Treasure' style of writing taking readers on a fairy tale of historical legends and myths makes the story captivating. While Michael Scott does an excellent job expressing the frustration that the characters experience as strangers try to influence the motives of historical figures without warrant and explanation, his success at that facet takes away from the depth and potential that exists for the main characters and 'end game' to take root and create a more complete series. This book was a page turner and despite my somewhat skeptical review, I am exited to pick up the next book in the series.

This novel was off the wall, in a some-what good way. Although some of it seemed stretched, it was a very good 'coming of age' book, that I would suggest to young readers.
