This is the seventh book in the Lady Grace Mysteries series, about Lady Grace Cavendish, a thirteen-year-old Maid of Honour at the court of Queen Elizabeth I. It is April 1570, and the entire court is busy with preparations for the wedding of Penelope Knollys, one of Grace's fellow Maids of Honour. But the plans are interrupted when part of the Queen's shipment of gold and jewels is stolen. There are multiples witnesses to the crime, but their stories don't match up. Grace is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and find out how the real thief is, but this will be one of her most confusing investigations ever, as every clue she finds seems to lead in a completely different direction. This is another good book from the Lady Grace Mysteries series. As always it has many details on various aspects of life in Elizabethan England, and the mystery kept me guessing for quite a while. Readers who enjoyed the other books in the series will definitely want to read this one as well.

The Hunger Games was by far the most addicting book I have ever read. At times I couldn't stop myself from reading. This book kept me at my toes and I was constantly thinking about what would happen next in the book. The author Suzanne Collins did such an amazing job getting in to extensive detail. When I read I felt as if I was Katniss fighting in the games. I felt as if my five senses were being used constantly. The book is full of humor, suspense, action, adventure, and plenty of romance. I deeply suggest this book to anyone and even though people like me who don't often read books much, I still found interest in it. Suzanne Collins' precision in writing is as well as Katniss' pinpoint accuracy. The plot was planned so well and the characters were well defined. Hands down this was my favorite book of all time. The story takes place in the distant future where the United States is separated into 13 districts and the government is ruled by tyrannous authority figures. The government forced this law where the children of their country were chosen to fight to represent their district. The Winner of the games would bring honor and wealth to there district. The main protagonist of the story is Katniss Everdeen. She now lives with her mother and sister, whom she now took the responsibility of taking care of. Katniss is described as a responsible, young adult who is very courageous and strong. She is still very fragile. Even though she doesn't show it, there is a deep pain inside her, a pain that was caused due to her father's tragic death. In the story, her sister Prim was chosen to fight in the games. Her little sister whom she loved so dearly and the only one who she truly loved. With no Hesitation what so ever Katniss volunteers to take her sister's spot in the games. In the games she fights alongside with Peeta, a young adult who comes from a family of bakers. She thinks of him as a weakling with no experience in the battle field. She also has this impression that he at one point will betray her. As the story progresses Peeta later reveals his love for Katniss. Suzanne Collins wrote this book in such perfection that I wouldn't mind reading it again. This is the type of book where you wish it could be a continuous story and never have to end. I think the theme of this is story is that no matter what life throws at you, you can always pick yourself up and continue on.

Black Sisters Street is Zwartezusterstraat, in the middle of Belgium's red-light district, home to four African women who have left their homeland in the naïve hope of betterment. The story begins when one of the women, Sisi, is found murdered. As her remaining co-workers and house mates, Ama, Efe and Joyce come to terms with her death, each relives their painful journey from Nigeria to Belgium to become sex workers, and how they have been brought together by Dele, a Nigerian pimp, and by "the trump card that God has wedged in between their legs". Unigwe's prose is clear and calm - although some terrible things take place in the book, the reader doesn't feel weighed down by it. Unigwe is also skilled at introducing into the narrative issues that are typical to Nigerian society like polygamy, sexism, belief in superstitions, tribal divisions and so on, using just a single reference or a passing comment, leaving the reader with a fleeting but precious sort of cultural snapshot. I won an advanced copy of this book on Goodreads First Reads giveaways and highly recommend it, but be warned: this novel leaves a strong aftertaste.

I didn't get this book. I mean, I got it, but I didn't find it as powerful as "The Bluest Eye." I thought the first part of the book was great - I loved the descriptions and really related to the relationship between the main characters. The second part, however, got rather convoluted. The characters' actions stopped making sense. That ruined the book for me.

This book showed flashes of beauty and brilliance, but was in need of a more agressive editor

maybe i'm a little biased (i worked on this book while at holiday house), but this is such a funny, quirky, touching story. i teared up a little at the end, and quickly became obsessed with watching the mole rats at the washington zoo web cam live feed.

After falling in love with Yourcenar's An Obscure Man, I picked this up in a used bookstore dollar bin. Like Obscure Man, the characters are deep and wounded. Longing, desperation and tragedy cut them to ribbons. Reminded me vaguely of Garcia Marquez, though Yourcenar isn't using magical realism. Deeply literate and melancholy.
