My sophomore students have to read this book for summer reading; I am really excited to talk to them about it. Though this is not necessarily a vision of heaven that I myself ascribe to, I think Albom's imagery can appeal to a mass of people. There are definitely theological/spiritual undertones, but the strength of this book comes in the lessons of the five people. Albom brilliantly shows that as human beings who freely make decisions, we are responsible for the ripple effect consequences. I must say that I am curious if I ever walked in the middle of the street as a child, unaware of the rest of the world around me. To any reader: Do not read unless you are prepared to think. This book will open up your mind in ways only you will know.

Revisiting this after five years away from Foer, I liked it less but not enough to downgrade a star. I think JSF can turn a phrase but Oskar didn't ring true to me as a character and the whole novel suffered as a result. So many of the extras incorporated into the narrative distract and detract from what is, at its heart, a powerful and emotionally resonant story.

It's very nice to see a comic book adaptation of the Tales of Dunk and Egg. However, in order to accommodate all the plot and backstory the book sometimes becomes too verbose, which is not bad on its own, but at times detracts from the reading flow. Also, the art is nice but not great.

I enjoyed reading more Ryan and Josh. It was nice to see how their relationship progressed. There are many secondary characters to enjoy as well. Now I have to go add Garrett and CJ's stories to my shelf as well.

A fun, magical read. Magyk is the tale of a wizard family, a missing princess, and magical duels. Full of action and adventure, this book does have a few slow spots, but overall the plot keeps moving and the author has provided an interesting cast of characters. However, no one central character emerges, but the Heap family and the friends which surround them provide for entertaining reading. Reminiscent of Harry Potter, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult or children's fantasy.
