Happiness is never grand." (p. 221) "Anything for a quiet life. We've gone on controlling ever since. It hasn't been very good for truth, of course. But it's been very good for happiness. One can't have something for nothing. Happiness has got to be paid for. You're paying for it, Mr. Watson - paying because you happen to be too much interested in beauty. I was too much interested in truth; I paid too." (p. 228) Huxley lyrically expands upon brilliant, deep truths about human consciousness, but his novel turns flat as he begins to sound repetitious after 259 pages. Perhaps he should have just stuck with his essays or written a short story. The moral message was idiot-proof blaring and I would have rather seen it wrapped in subtle tones.

I also liked the personal experiences that were shared, and stories of others who have encountered problems with objects, buildings, and land having unwelcomed inhabitants tagging along for the ride. Very interesting, and enlightening. This is a great book that will help you to understand what you are dealing with and what to do about it in a very practical way. You are also given some very useful prayers at the end of the book, and some recommended reading for more help. I highly recommend this book for every serious Christian. Great read.

I first fell in love with Madeline L'Engle's autobiography/non-fiction books in college when I read Walking on Water. It became a top 10 book, one of those I pass on to most people, and I feel the same way about all other memoirs I have read by L'Engle. I told Justin when I finished that book that she makes me feel like I have had an important conversation with a good friend throughout the entire book. I love her- most of all I love her non-fiction and "children's"books.

Chasing Charity is a delightful, fun read. I found the story very compelling and hard to resist. What I mean by that is I wanted to keep picking it up to read it. I breezed through the novel fairly quickly and didn't get bored with the story at all. The near-kisses were pretty exciting, but not overly so. I enjoyed the history of the town and the added conflict shown through the variety of perspectives, which is not usally done in typical romances. On a more comical note, I enjoyed the crazy mamma and her friend and the antics they pulled coupled with their hillbilly speak. I found the dialog and colloquialisms especially entertaining. But it's not all silliness, though it will make you smile on a frequent basis. The heart of the story is about love and forgiveness, which is clearly relayed through this novel. Nothing edgy, but still very enjoyable for me.
