This series is so concentrated on unrequited love and violence that there is little character development. The characters are evolving, but I feel as if I am personally having to do it for them rather than having the author do it. Still, it kept my interest and I want to read the last book just to see if there are any unexpected developments that will excite me.

This is the cookbook I probably use most often. Marcella's recipes, for as intimidating as they may sound (risotti, stuffed squid, spinach and ricotta gnocchi, carciofi alla romana, etc.) are all authentic, easy to follow, and turn out properly every single time. Furthermore, there's lots of great information about ingredients (and how to select the best and freshest), history and culture as relates to ingredients and dishes, and overall good, sound cooking common-sense. She is occasionally more of a purist than I am, but isn't that the kind of teacher you'd like to rebel against from time to time? I've made this chicken marsala recipe a thousand times, so that I've got it memorized, and people go bonkers for it every single time.

It's hard for me to endorse many novels in which writers write about writers (exception Philip Roth), but when a writer writes about a writer writing about a writer, well thats just such a new spin on the idea that I can't help but love it! Or not. In reality, this book had a couple of neat tidy plot twists based around characters that were anything but neat and tidy. When reading the book, I found myself pounding through pages and enjoying the finely trimmed story. But when the book wasn't in my hands, I never really wanted to come back to it. It was like a meal that you always like when you have it, but you never really crave it. Not a bad book, but do you really want the literary equivalent of chicken fingers?

I am not sure how Sarah Addison Allen does it, her writing is consistent and aways engaging. I start one of her books and am immediately transported into another world. The Peach Keeper is another fine example of this. Imagine a Ladies Society founded by two friends and then their granddaughters starting a friendship 75 years later. As with Allen's previous works there is reflection of the past, secrets are revealed and awakenings to the possibilities of the future.

This book has inspired me to eat healthier & be more concious of what I eat. I will be reading this book again. The only thing I disliked was the cursing which was couldve been left out.

I chose this book because it is set in my hometown of Cleveland. The author got the details correct on the setting and even the direction of what you see when looking north, south, east or west. With her next book ( if there is one) I hope to get that much detail correct with the plot. The day starts with the discovery of a body on a lawn in an exclusive suburb and ends with a bank robbery gone wrong. The main character works in the Crime lab and is dating a cop who works the case. It is typical bank robbery gone wrong and hostages are taken. THe fresh take is that we get consice details on how law officials attempt to end a stand off peacefully. The end came at me at a little fast and I guessed wrong on the motive and then with some rethinking figured out who was really behind the robbery and the ending was realistic.
