4th book in the series. provides an excellent perspective on contemporary southern africa (a quick mystery fiction read though). it's a very popular series, and i would highly recommend one or two. after that, they tend to get repetitive and boring.

Long, long, long. I listened to it and wished I would have read it so I could have skimmed each chapter. At one point the author, who is very found of metaphors and similes, talks about the River that flows and flows yet changes little, Edgar losses consciousness, wakes up to the image of the river flowing again...and my thought was the river is like this bleeping book...it just keeps on flowing and never changing! I felt beat over the head with a number of his metaphors. Did the author really have to point out that Edgar was growing up and looked like a smaller version of his father Gar. We got the Edgar - Gar connection early on! At least 2 friends never finished this book.

Getting better and better. Having read what I assume is the inspirational material behind the story, I'm quite looking forward to how this all ends. The alternate history is the delicious icing on the cake.

I don't get why people think these books are so vapid and inappropriate for teens. Hello: hilarious satire. I think there is nothing more than reading a book that lets you know that rich people are just as wicked and miserable as everyone else. These books are great read aloud.

The documentary based off this book is better than the book. I learned Robert Evans is a Republican. In the movie you don't learn that, which is really preferable for enjoying it.

This book is part of a series based on biblical characters. It was interesting and a quick read but not the best writing. It's good if you're looking for lighter historical fiction with a religious twist.
