I had very high hopes when I started out but in the end, I found this book by Elie Wiesel to be too fragmented for my taste. It seemed that either things in the story needed to be cut out or expanded upon significantly. And the main character's wife......what was up with her?

Ever since Isabella and Mac were introduced in The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, I was dying to read their story, but it didn't turn out to be as great as I'd expected. The plot and characters are still as wonderful as they were in the previous book, but I couldn't really bring myself to care about either Isabella or Mac. Their story is sweet, romantic, cute, amazing, and, at times, heart-wrenching, but nothing close to the romance between Beth and Ian. I found this book to be rather predictable with no character development. The characters are the same on the first page as they are on the last, except with fewer misunderstandings between them. Hopefully Cam's story will have more character development and plot twists.

A steampunk version set in Victorian England. This is a mystery of sorts. The question is: Who is really the detective? Lady Law is a detective who has a 100% success rate and puts Scotland Yard to shame. She comes to the aid of Julia. Her sister has just been murdered and Scotland Yard has come up with nothing to go on. But, there is a cute detective who keeps Julia apprised of the investigation. So, Scotland Yard does have it's uses in this story. :) Lady Law quickly comes to a conclusion and "solves" the case. But all is not as it should be. There is far more to the whodunnit. This is not a very long book. I wasn't overly impressed with the writing. It seemed a bit confusing at times, but not overly confusing. Now am I confusing you? You can scan through the confusing parts and keep up with the story. Recommended if you don't have a lot of time and want a quick read.

5 stars go to books that stay with me and that keep me coming back to them. The first time I read this book, I was inspired to pull out my pencil & underline beautiful reflections. It certainly was not a page turner- slow & contempletive- but I keep returning to re-read & underline more.
