Horrible! EXACT storyline as Devil Wears Prada, except it's the job (not so much an evil boss) that demands the heroine improve her fashion and social circle, and sacrifice her humble self and friends. Does the author have no shame? For me to even glimpse at another book by Lauren Weisberger, it would have to win a Pulitzer.

Ayan Rand is a philosopher. Reading her (or really any philosophers') books on philosophy is tedious at best, but the Fountainhead illustrates her point in a poigniant way with a great story. In reading it you understand why it is so important in life to follow your own inner spirit and be true to yourself, no matter the cost.

Dunia is a young peasant girl in the Russian countryside of 1911 who runs away from an abusive father, hoping for a better life. She is found by the infamous Rasputin, who takes her to the royal palace to be his messenger. At the palace she befriends the Tsar's family and becomes especially close friends with the youngest daughter, Anastasia. However she begins to distrust Rasputin's motives and on the eve of the Russian Revolution she must choose where her loyalties lie, even if it means risking losing everything she has come to love in her new life. This was a very interesting and enjoyable historical novel for young adult about the Russian Revolution, and the last Tsar and his family. By using a peasant girl as the narrator and the Tsar's family as main characters, the author was able to show the perspective of an ordinary girl who was born into poverty in contrast to the luxurious life the royal family lived. I would highly recommend this book to young readers who enjoyed books such as the Royal Diaries series, as well as to older readers like myself who have a special interest in the subject.

I read this book in college because it was required reading for my lit class. I typically do not enjoy poetry, so when I saw this on the required reading list I just about choked. Though I can't say that it has made a poetry lover out of me, I do admit that this is by far one of the best books I have ever read....poetry or not! The selection of poets is pretty comprehensive and the poems featured by those poets are beautifully selected to help show all aspects of the poet's writing. Each poet has his/her own section, the beginning of which has a brief biography of the poet. There are copious footnotes, explanations after the poems, and bibliographies for further reading. For someone who is not a poet aficionado, this collection is simply perfection! It helped guide me to secondary sources for writing papers and the brief explanatory paragraphs at the end of the poems helped to shed some light on difficult poems without dictating one meaning. Though I am no longer and college, years away now, I find myself going back to this book again and again. I have purchased other collections but none of them have struck me the way that one does. I have encouraged others to read it, whether they are poetry fans or not, and have been met with the same response: this anthology is superb! I have not had a chance to read the other anthologies in the collection, but if they are anything like this one...I'll take the whole set! www.iamliteraryaddicted.blogspot.com

Dederer has some really funny lines in here. Her voice is vivid and the writing frequently lively. Because I'm also in my thirties (barely ;)) raising young children, I think this book was interesting to me in a way it would not have been at another time. The yoga bits, which are actually pretty minimal/tangential, were just okay, but I don't really have an interest in yoga. Also, I found the "Child's Pose" chapters, in which she examines her childhood experiences, sort of distracting and not really very interesting.
