I thought that this book would be harder to read, but Solzhenitsyn actually leaves you with hope.

Hm ... wow this was strange. I've never heard of a story quite like this - very ... original. I was most definitely intrigued by this unique blend of superhero powers and science fiction. I was impressed by James Patterson and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

It was long. The beginning started out fun and exciting but about 200 pages in it got super boring. I bet you could've taken out 150 pages in the middle and not noticed. There were a bunch of random deaths and weird scenes that didn't have a lot to do with the story. The ending was so weird because it was like the author was trying to explain everything in the last couple pages. Not a book I'd recommend.

In the lives of children, pumpkins can turn into coaches, mice and rats into human beings. When we grow up, we learn that it’s far more common for human beings to turn into rats. If magic was present, it moved under the skin of the world, beneath the ability of human eyes to catch sight of it. Immortality is a chancy thing; it cannot be promised or earned. Perhaps it cannot even be identified for what it is. It’s the place of the story, beginning here, in the meadow of late summer flowers, thriving before the Atlantic storms drive wet and winter upon them all. So let my hands and my face make their way in this world, let my hungry eyes see, my tongue taste. Is this the main thing that painters of portraits care about? The person on the verge of becoming someone else? When the dawn light is coursing through the slats in the shutters at last, making thin stripes on the floor, she, tossing, decides that for every human soul there must surely be a possible childhood worth living, but once it slips by, there isn’t any reclaiming it or revising it.

I never read it in school so I decided to read it recently, but I have to say, I was disappointed by Madame Bovary's selfish vanity. It was worth the read though, as its a unique romantic tragedy and an interesting commentary on fantasy versus reality and aspiring to be more than ordinary.

For some reason, I was rooting for the moose.
This was a good story about a girl who wasn't wanted. I cried in many places, and I would definately re-read this. I especially liked the story at the end.

The usual punch of Koontz but wrapped up in a quick-paced, easy read - has the feel of a summer read. Excellent stuff!
