This was a quick and easy read. John Grisham does a great job pulling you into the stories right at the first page. Perfect for the beach or plane when you don't want a lot of depth but want to be entertained. The only drawback to these kinds of books for me is the lack of depth... once finished, it was gone from my mind.

I bought this at a remainder sale a few years ago and was thoroughly disappointed. I wasn't surprised at all at the controversy stirred up when the film premiered last year; frankly, I know from messed up families, and this "memoir" had way too many theatrics. It sits on my shelf gathering dust because I can't bear to throw a book away and don't want it circulating the library system either. If you want a decent memoir, try Jeanette Walls' The Glass Castle .

Not only did she graduate college with honors, she was friends with Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, Mark Twain and met John F. Kennedy. Her accomplishments despite the handicaps of being blind, deaf and a woman are amazing.

I loved the premise of this book - clan leader is ordered to take a bride from another culture. It's a classic romance formula. Good stuff. I really enjoyed all of the characters and the murder mystery part. What keeps this from being a 5 star book is the question and answer dialog. The characters couldn't just spit it out. There was a lot of "What did you say"s and "I don't think I get your meaning"s. That was tiring.

I'm a knitter, which means I'm also a knitting book fiend. This one feels like the book I've been waiting for. I'm a fan of the author's patterns in general, with exception to when she gets a little to mod for me. There are some patterns in this book that I wouldn't bother with (I'm not a fan of chunky yarn), but all the rest I can't wait to cast on for. (That's knitter-talk for "start new project".)
