My favorite non-fiction book of all time. Want to chat about the fall of Easter Island? Love it!

We loved this book because the square turned into lots of cool shapes. We liked the water fountain and the river and mountain and the gardens.

Someone recommended this series for me. I saw it as an add-on option for $1 on Ebay, figured "What the Heck?" Interesting concept. It's kind of like a 100 Bullets meets Grimm Fairy Tales book. Since I dig those two series, I did like this book. In afterthought, I probably should've started with volume 1 but, that being said, the concept isn't that difficult to follow.

I thought it was an interesting look at futurism and robots. It was interesting to read this book from a feminist perspective, because Asimov was so clearly trying to portray women in positions of authority, but there were still little hints of sexism, like when the head of the European region said you could tell her region wasn't powerful because it was led by a lowly woman (referring to herself), along with a few other places. Though I must admit it was entertaining.

** spoiler alert ** Here are Benjie's problems: 1. He is going through adolescence. 2. He is a geek, going through adolescence. 3. He is an African American son of a doctor and a lawyer attending a mostly-white NY prep school durin the Cosby era, with all the attending confusions about identity, loyalty, etc. 4. His narrative voice refuses to stick to its strengths, instead going off on long, boring rambles about exactly which flavors of ice cream would melt if he left the freezer open at work. 5. Oh yeah--he has an alcoholic, abusive father. 6. But mostly it's the adolescence thing that really gets him. 7. Unless you're trying to read the book, in which case #4 is more of an issue. The moments of brilliance were there--New Coke, anyone?--but way too padded with boring, boring, boring descriptive stuff. I kept thinking it would get better, but it never did.

I only gave it one star because in the end I would never recommend it to anyone to read--ever. Overall it was an entertaining story and has a good ending, which is always a plus; and it gives remarkable insight into the "pathetic granduer of the Depression-era circus." Sara Gruen also writes the ederly Jacob very well. BUT The "pathetic granduer" had too many details of things I never want to read; and the language was bad. To get history right doesn't mean I have to read about all the details. I am a sucker for finishing a book but more than once in this book I wished I didn't have this personality flaw.

I was prepared to read about 9/11 with this novel, so it didn't bother me. Kalfus's writing and storytelling are extremely effective (mainly at making me never, ever want to get divorced, especially living in NYC), but I found some plot holes. Overall, a good and timely read.

*I'm dreaming of a dark warrior just like the one I used to know ;) With a scarred chest 8 pack, and long blond hair that curls my claws and makes me groan ;) Good gravy with pepperoni on top was this book AWESOME!!! Fabtabulous, Awesometastic, fabuloso, KILLER!! Love! LOVE! LOVE!! I seriously didn't think anything could top a wolf.... and sure... nothing can... but a berserker is soooooo close!! I bet most of you have read reviews on this book so my review is just going to be squees. *Regin was awesometastic in her butt-kicking skills and being all COME HITHER in the beginning. *Nix was crazy as hell but that's why we love her. *New addiction Bertil was fabulous and now I want a bat as a pet! Loved him! *New boy Thad had that new car smell and reminded me of Jimmy Olsen from Superman (but still GREAT!) *Aidan the big viking warrior can raid my village any day of the week. *Declan in the beginning was hard to get along with but at the end it just felt oh so right! squee squee! *I freaking ADORED the prologue. Though rather lengthy it was PERFECT. *THe epilogue took my breath away and was too too short. I seriously can not wait for more books and I sooooooooooo want Uilleam to get his own book. (make it happen Kresley!!! *shakes fist and prances on tip toes like a spastic fangirl) Again... love love LOVED this book!! favorite line: Could any male make her feel as he had the night he'd lightly rasped his blond stubble over her stomach and murmured, "I want babes with you- berserker sons and Valkyrie daughters." He raised his head at her with clear gray eyes. "Give them to me one day" -Aiden the Fierce to Regin (taken from prologue) All I can say is "I'm melting! melting! MELTING!" (in squees)
